User Rating: 9.1 | Call of Duty 2: Big Red One PS2
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One is a very solid shooter any way you look at it. The game sweeps you off to North Africa, the island of Sicily, Normandy, and eventually into Deuschland itself. As you would expect, all these locations give you acess to a myriad of weapons, and landscapes, and missions. This is one of BR1's strong suits. because there is such a large variety of weapons to collect throughout the game, it is always entertaining.
The unusual missions also add to the flavor of real combat scenarios. two in particular are the Liberator, and Piano Lupo missions in which you get to perform various tasks on a bomber and a halftrack with twin- mounted .50 caliber AA guns respectively.
The one complaint that i would make against the game is that it is too easy. To really make the game a challenge at all, the difficulty needs to be put on hard. but once on hard you should find that it is a perfect level for most levels.
Perhaps the biggest complaint against BR1 is that it doesn't effectivly capture the chaotic feel of ww2 battles. this complaint was obviously made by people who are not versed well enough with the history/battles of ww2. The simple fact is that not all battles in ww2 were as big as the Invasion of Normandy. D-Day was the biggest battle in the history of warfare! Most "battles" were small skirmishes outside towns or in forests such as the Ardennes.
