An amazing and unique experience but a bit overly dejecting and technically flawed.

User Rating: 8 | Beyond: Two Souls PS3

The story of Beyond Two Souls is terrific and the cast's performances were top notch, but the plot really needed some better emotional balancing and maybe chapter rearrangement. From start to finish the game is soul wrenchingly sad and while they presented/acted out the situations perfectly they really should have shown some of the good/humorous times; I know Jodi's life is in the running for shittiest ever experienced I'm positive there were some happy moments in those 15 years. Sometimes I felt like I went into a chapter without knowing enough to properly understand what was going on, and I also feel like Beyond Two Souls lost out on some of the sense of urgency Fahrenheit or Heavy Rain had because the plot encompasses years instead of a couple of days.

People who say you're choices have little or no effect on the game either have not played or paid no attention, there are many completely different endings and even more different details in those endings depending on what you did throughout the game, and the way you get to the end will be completely unique for every player. The motion qte's were a nice attempt at something new but ultimately were a disaster, and failure of the qte's didn't seem to have as big as an effect as previous Quantic games.

Beyond Two Souls is an exceptional experience that will use it's incredibly unique plot and brilliant acting to make you feel completely connected to Jodi Holmes plight even if it may be little too gloomy at times and deserves at least one playthrough for every story lover out there.

Potential Future

Beyond Two Souls has huge potential as a series if Quantic Dream can tweak the qte system, bring back the level of environmental interactiveness of Heavy Rain, enhance the sense of urgency, and bring the melancholy down to a Max Payne level.
