You may never win, but it won't disappoint you

Few honest players can add this title to the list of games they've mastered (without cheats, tricks, or warp points), but, oddly enough, the experience is rewarding nevertheless. The story is that of 3 hero toads, "BattleToads" if you will, named after blemishes and skin irritations: Rash, Zitz, and Pimple. The brauny Pimple was out cruisin' the galaxy with a princess, when suddenly the Dark Queen captured them. Now the cool, hip Rash and the brainy Zitz, must go after the rescue, as instructed by a bird in a bird shaped jet. A classic story, with all the incentive you need.

Gameplay, mechanics, and graphics, are unmatched, and to this day remain as a superb testament of how a game should be played. Essentialy, I suppose it may be called a platform game, but aside from beating the snot out of baddies, there are stages of racing (with increbible speed), jet and dragon flying, snake riding, surf boarding, headbutting, stick slapping, snowballs, cannons, elevators, beating the clocks for explosions, and more. You name it, it's got it, and it's got it down right.

The music is stellar and often catchy (surf city anyone), and the sound effects are variant and appropriate, like the zap of electricuting a toad. Like every great game, the bosses are big and offer conquerable challenges, and are especially rewarding to defeat after the another difficult level. If you are curious and thinking of playing this game, I cannot recommend it enough. I bought this game in the early 90s at a retail price of $76.99 CDN, and it was worth every penny , as I still come back to it. TIP: make sure your controller is responsive and all the buttons work like new, because the last thing you want to have happen is for a forward-forward dash to fail you as you race a giant, exploding, robotic rat, or the A button to stick during a timely jump.
