Ubisoft: Watch Dogs progressing "very well," will be top-seller in 2014

CEO Yves Guillemot says team happy to have extra time to create a "very high quality" game.

by

Watch Dogs and The Crew, two next-generation games Ubisoft delayed last month, are progressing "very well," CEO Yves Guillemot said today during an earnings call.

Guillemot went on to say that the development teams are "really happy" to take advantage of the extra development time so as to achieve "very high quality games."

In the case of Watch Dogs specifically, Guillemot said the delay should allow the game to be a top-seller in 2014. "And so we are confident with the game and its ability to be one of the best sellers of next year," Guillemot said.

Watch Dogs was scheduled as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before Ubisoft delayed the game to spring 2014 in October. Guillemot said previously that the game's delay will give it "far bigger potential" at launch.

As for The Crew, it never had an official launch date, but was also delayed in October to sometime in Ubisoft's upcoming financial quarter, meaning the earliest the game could be released is April 1, 2014.

That's a pretty arrogant statement and after a delay of almost a year they can suck it quite frankly.

Maybe my most anticipated game, and a finished product is definitely preferable. I still suspect it was delayed to maximize AC4 profits though.

I was so incredibly hyped for this game and when I read the news it was delayed I screamed at the top of my lungs(No joke). Was REALLY REALLY looking forward to this on PC. Now that's it's been delayed though, and several months from release I don't feel very excited for it anymore. They better use this extra time to truly improve it and make it the amazing game they are hyping it to be. Lol, I bet Microsoft and Sony were so pissed when they found out it was delayed, since this was one of the few games actually worth getting on next gen over current gen. AC4 for example, doesn't even look next gen and after watching IGN's comparison video, there's no reason to wait for the next gen version when it looks just as good on current gen. For shame Ubisoft, for shame, I was so pumped for this game.

It's really not very smart for anyone to say their product will be the best seller. I will give Ubisoft the benefit here and call this poor journalism. Just look who wrote this. Not to mention the briefness of the article and the very vague quotes.

of course theyre happy.  extends their employment by a few more months.  most studios have a good clear out once a big project has been completed. no wonder they dont want to finish anything in a hurry

I'll probably pick this up for pc if Ubisoft develops the game for the pc first and then port it over to the other systems.  The system requirements for this game seem to be a good way to measure hardware performance.

Is Watch dogs coming incurrent gen this year

I went from being excited as hell when I first saw it to not giving a fuck anymore now. I feel like I already played the game and got bored of it from all the repetitive marketing gameplay videos. So, that's $60 less for Ubisoft now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Especially if GTA V finally pops onto the radar for the PC in Spring of 2014.

I keep calling this one "Hacker's Creed". Which doesn't bother me much because I'm one of those sad guys who can't get enough of AC :P

Hmm Here is the thing.

When I first saw watchdogs I was intriguied my intrestest piqued ect ect ect.

But then I started to notice the feedback that they seem to be listening to like "Boring" and "They have not shot anyone in forever" and then after hearing about the delay I can only shudder.

What we are going to get is one ugly ass camel when it comes out.

I preferred the idea of a story and main character that also doesn't have to be be Mr. Murderball/Human Bullet sponge machine but I know this... anytime ANY game gets focus test and feedback its always the same crap.

Its always some crap about being bored blagh blagh blagh OH you were not excited? Well then lets add some splosions and gunplay and Murica! crap for you there you lowest common denominator feel better? Heres some tickets to a Micheal bay movie as well.

Lol its so funny seeing GTA kids here trying to reduce the hype for this game but Watch Dogs will be so much better than that overrated piece of garbage game called GTAV.

"Guillemot said previously that the game's delay will give it "far bigger potential" at launch."

No shit, Ubisoft. I imagine Watch Dogs is going to sell pretty well considering it'll launch alongside precisely nothing else in particular. I sense a lack of faith in this title.

It will probably not be the best game of next year, but i believe it will be somewhere up there. i mean Ubisoft makes great first-time games, their games only start to suck when they start re-releasing the same thing every year. Last year's Far Cry 3 came years after the second one and was awesome. I believe Watch Dogs will be the same way. At least the first Watch Dogs game will be awesome!

"Yes, yes, yes, Its all progressing VERY WELL! Although, our game still looks like a lifeless corpse compared to the thriving unbridled vibrancy of GTA Los Santos. Yes, we really shot ourselves in the foot this time what with debuting our game on next gen, when its clear as day to anybody witha working pair of eyes, that our version of Chicago pales in ANY comparison you draw to the SPECTACULAR design and GROUNDBREAKING visuals GTAs San Andreas has to offer.  We are sorry. We are French Canadian. We are sorry."

Watch dogs was most likely delayed so they could nail everything down 100% on next gens. I rather they take their time with it then to rush the process to get the games out for next gen launch. They made the right move and didnt sacrifice quality for a rushed release date.

im glad it got delayed, I want a game that shows how much effort they've put into it...... and I want the special edition which I don't have money for now xDDD

would be cool if it would beat cod in sales but I highly doubt it. Reason why GTA and COD sell as much as they do is casuel players knowing those brands while they don't know anything about watch dogs.

I wonder how far behind this game was. It got delayed only weeks before launch. It was have been really close to being done, otherwise they wouldn't have delayed it so close to launch?

@plm3d_basic Ubisoft said that they developed the game on the pc first. So I really hope it won't be the shit that is now happening with bf4 and ghosts on the pc.

@fieldofview I was never excited for it from the beginning. I may buy it, but it looks like another game I will play for a while and then never go back to.

@fieldofview "I'm sure I'm not the only one". Not sure about that, but I'm still stoked about the game. Think of it, GTA V also did the same thing and the result was worth the wait. If Watch Dogs can pull it off with actual hands-on playable demos of the game recently, they are surely going to deliver that promise.

@tysandsnyc The Division probably won't be until around the holidays in 2014 at the earliest. Assuming it was at the same stage of development as Watch Dogs was when it was debuted at E3 2012, then you can assume the earliest we would see The Divison would be a year from now if not later. Seems like such a long time away....

tightwad34

@atakanovic Lol, I see you are just trying to stir up shit seeing how nobody knows if Watch Dogs is any good and GTAV is great and the fastest selling entertainment property of all time. It's all subjective man, one's opinion doesn't mean the next is shit.

shazz_rulez19
shazz_rulez19

@atakanovic Sir with all due respect GTAV is nowhere near garbage, i dunno if you played it or not but that game is a beast within itself and i'm not hating on Watch Dogs cuz it equally looks beautiful but it'll become a milked franchise so wont really matter anymore just like assassins creed but you dont see a game from rockstar of that magnitude each year.

@PlatinumPaladin you do realize that UbiSoft is a business, don't you? they will want to release a game when it is the most profitable. I was not surprised that they delayed WD as GTA had just been released and it was also competing against its own AC4. bring it out in spring would do wonders for they're sales

@PlatinumPaladin The game looks fantastic to me! Then again, any hyped game would always seem mediocre to some

johnnypogo

@PlatinumPaladin Ive always thought this game seemed completely mediocre. Aside from what? Being able to throw up road blocks, which got old the second time I saw it. This game always looked boring to me.

Carpetfluff

@themc_7 Honestly, I don't think that was the issue. I think everybody got excited when they saw the first snippets of the game and then Ubi shot themselves in the foot with the 15 minute playthrough videos...the feedback started to go a little south. Plenty of people thought it looked boring, and they got the message that it needed a little more work. I'm looking forward to playing it, but it's patently obvious that once you get past the obvious differences, it's very much got the core Assassin's Creed/ Farcry 3 gameplay staples in place. I'm actually glad to not have to play it back-to-back with Black Flag. It's nice they borrow things that work for each other's games, but they need to make sure they don't all blend together too much. Far Cry 3's alarm bells and more full-on hunt-to-create systems being the latest thing to jump franchises.

tightwad34
tightwad34

@Ali_Asif I know you aren't comparing it to GTAV, but it won't have the same effect, not even close.

@bouff Since what you're saying has the same general meaning as what I said, I can only assume that you're assuming I'm pissed off by the delay. I'm not, so kindly stow the attitude.

Regardless of how much I love The Witcher 1,2, I'm afraid The Witcher 3 will not be top-seller in 2014 since it's not a game for everyone, or I must say people nowadays get their hands too much in mindless shooters, if you know what I mean...

unreal101

@Carpetfluff  See the problem for me isn't that WD is too similar to AC or Far Cry, it's that it doesn't look nearly as interesting as either of those two. "Hacking" is supposed to be this big gameplay hook, but all it is is holding the X button and watching a progress bar crawl. There's some stealth, but it doesn't look half as good as stealth in AC4 or Far Cry 3. Then there's the setting... so far, all I've seen is drab city environments. Hardly stimulating to the senses.

Carpetfluff
Carpetfluff

@unreal101 @Carpetfluff I know what you mean. I guess they wanted the hacking to be quick as you're pretty much going to be using it non-stop but it does make it seem a bit...meh. I'm sure there are core mechanics that are very different but it's all still very much taking over smaller bases to open up more things in that portion of the map etc etc. Hopefully they can differentiate and make it fun, but yeah, a lot of people just said it looked dull once the walkthrough videos popped up. Showing too much can sometimes be as bad as showing too little.
