Tyranny of George Washington DLC hits Assassin's Creed III in February

First episode of three-part series--The Infamy--comes to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC February 19; free for Season Pass owners, $10 otherwise.

by

Assassin's Creed III's three-part Tyranny of George Washington expansion will begin February 19. That's when the first episode--The Infamy--launches for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Ubisoft announced today. The content will be available as a free download for those who hold a $30 Season Pass and will be $10 otherwise.

The content can also be purchased at GameStop and Best Buy, Ubisoft said.

In the first episode, protagonist Connor is woken from a dream to find that a new king has been crowned: George Washington.

The Infamy will focus on Connor's early efforts to dethrone the malevolent king. Two additional chapters will follow at a later date.

Notably, the launch of The Tyranny of George Washington comes just one day after Presidents Day in the United States, which is a federal holiday in the US and honors George Washington.

The Tyranny of George Washington--and all other Assassin's Creed III expansion packs--will be available for the Wii U version. However, Ubisoft did not provide a release schedule.

meanwhile there are still bugs that Ubisoft has yet to address for the singleplayer.

I haven't even finished the original AC3 story yet... There's something about this game that keeps me away from playing it...

I loved the AC series. It was awesome to play around in those times and stuff. I didn't care that it was historically correct because it's a GAME. Besides, it's much more fun to bend history and add things that were completely opposite. I would like to see how this plays out if he were a dictator (In Ubisoft's eyes at least :p )

Of course, i spent the $15 that i was saving for it on infamous 2 last week.....

I knew it wouldn't be long before the myopic zealots started to demonize America yet again. Bigots. All.

Why are people complaining about this? I thought the DLC was based in an Alternative History. Stop whining about it and enjoy the game, you stupid, borderline morons! -_-  I don't even know why some of you are complaining.  So ridiculous.

Really guys? This is a "What If?" scenario. No need to get all butthurt over this.

Wow that's absolutely outrageous. I held off buying the season pass because I don't play the multi thought I'd be able to get just the single player DLC for less than $30. I guess not, and I guess I won't be buying this.

The history student in me is crying.  But then again, it's been pretty ridiculous all along.  Ever since Ezio and his merry men, those historical figures who were actually assassins, with leo as the tech geek.  Sure.

A strange departure for the Assassin's Creed series. I find it's always at it's best when it's closest to reality. I'll be skipping this.

The main problem here is that it's  gone from pseudo-historic themes to pure fantasy...  I thought the intent was to ultimately have the series converge with recent history and modern era events, not comic book territory.

What if's are the same as parallel universes in Sci-fi and therefore have no boundries. Sure he may have had his good points and bad points (not my favorite historic character because of the whole native debacle) but if there is a parallel universe, none of us can know if George Washington was a really nasty piece of work over there. Watch Fringe, Star Trek or any other Sci-fi dealing in Parallels and what ifs. When it comes down to this kind of narative, all bets are off.

I love all the North Americans who were saying the British who disliked slaughtering Redcoats were just whiners and "its just a game".

But now the shoe is on the other foot, they're kicking and screaming how ridiculous this apparently is.

It would've made a lot more sense to make GW a bad guy as a Templar in disguise. The Templars are not stupid, they know how to control people without a king. The best way to control the populace would be to install one of their own as President. The people would be thrilled to have a President and not a King.

I have zero objection to GW being bad, and yes I'm an American. To me it's a great twist with a "history is written by the victors!" vibe but I think it's silly that's he actually a King and not just first President like in the history books.

I'm much more offended by the price point.

while assassin's creed is a scifi, i liked how they tried to stay accurate to historical events without major alternates. I don't mind the idea of GW being a bad dude, but a total "what if" alternate history cartoonish scenario is kind of a disconnect from this series, its not what assassin creed has been about. Which is why i'm not likely to give this dlc a chance.

How insulting.  This has just inspired me to put off buying AC3 even longer.

WoW, 30$ for a mere expansion, that  adds no canon story?

How much content are they going to add?

The wolf pelt does really seems great though and the companion wolf familiars...

$30 Season Pass

OR

$10 each for the 3 parts of the story...

Yeah, that Season Pass sure does sound like a deal.

Tyranny of George Washington?  Couldn't they have picked someone a little more fitting to be the tyrant?  Washington refused to be put into office by his soldiers.

Would of got more sales if they did Tyranny of Admiral General Aladeen.

Nobody would care that it makes absolutely no sense with the AC 3 setting or story. Id buy it.

dumb question:
$10 each episode...or $10 for all of them...

i suppose $10 each...if so, i will wait the 3 chapters bundle at $15

"Two additional chapters will follow at a later date."

so pay now,for something you'll get a year later

fuck no! if i'm buying something i want it as soon as i pay for it, fuck all the season pass bullshit

it's enough that the "extra" missions on the "exclusive" ps3 were disappointing (Especially the benadict arnold missions)

still, an altrnate history DLC? hmmm so this is pure gameplay,no story...

isn't this the point of assassin's creed? the good story? since when did they turn the AC series into a Profitable scheme? it's since ACR they've making cheap DLC's in high prices

and that sequel bait ending... i felt cheated.

ubisoft has turn to be semi-EA company, which pisses all over the fans, piss off the pc gamers with crap DRM and charging money for ingame upgrades

Not buying this purely because of the title. George Washington was an intelligent and great man who turned DOWN becoming a king. He was pretty humble too. I don't care if it is a what if or not. It's pathetic.

@Yuna08 It's just not quite as fun until you beat and, once the whole world opens up to you. Then it finally feels like assassin's creed, but better in my opinion. Until that point, there are some really cool moments, but it's nonetheless disapointingly linear.

cdog5386
cdog5386

@swamptick It's an alternative take on a legendary historical figure, my friend.  Calm down.  And who are these "myopic zealots" you are referring to?

So, if an author writes some fictionalized story about the Native Americans, I guess you would get upset as well, right?  Somehow I doubt that you really would.  Because that is where Connor's story comes from: an alternative historical fantasy.

Some people seem to think anyone that even mentions our founders are somehow anti-american.  Well, a lot of people, parties, and sides in many conflicts have, so I guess we all "demonize" America.

@Pyrosa I was thinking a past interview with devs made it sound like an alternate AC timeline, so it isn't canon.

Kreol1q1q

@Lazy_Marine Were you to study history, you'd know just how ridiculous the rest of AC's "adapted history" actually is. Claiming any of the AC games were even remotely historically accurate would be a gross exaggeration.

@IllegallyAwesum @Yuna08 Thanks for the kind reply; thought i might get bashed from saying that. I left the game for a month at sequence 6, I heard it'll get better from sequence 7. It's motivating to hear you say that, so might find time to play it soon. Thank you.

@Psycho_Hands @IgotEpixx

people just have pride in their country, i see nothing wrong with that.  Especially since the popular alternative these days is self loathing, america is a terrible country, etc.  Strange how that only happens in America, most every country has boundless amounts of pride among it's citizens, even if it's not justified, or they are all living in horrible conditions, they still stand firm in their pride...not us though, why do you think that is? :)

@Stefsi91 It isn't about him being a saint. It is about a gross misrepresentation of a historical figure. Especially when we KNOW he was the complete opposite of wanting to be a king.
