ACIII DLC includes tyrannical George Washington campaign

Ubisoft announces $30 season pass for upcoming action game that includes access to five add-ons, including three-part The Tyranny of King George alternate history campaign and multiplayer packs.

How would history be different if George Washington succumbed to the allure of infinite power? Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III will answer that question through downloadable content called "The Tyranny of King George."

Washington sits on a throne in AC III's new DLC.

A single-player campaign delivered through three episodes, the content tasks players will dethroning Washington and returning freedom to the colonies. Ubisoft had no qualms about altering history, according to executive producer Sebastien Puel.

“History is our playground, and [Assassin's Creed] teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period,” Puel said in a statement. “While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened.’”

The Tyranny of King George DLC will be included with the $30 Assassin's Creed III season pass. The pass offers gamers access to five DLC packs, and will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Pass-holders will not only save 25 percent over the cost of purchasing each add-on individually, but they will also have access to the content a week ahead of everyone else.

On top of the single-player DLC, upcoming Assassin's Creed III add-on content will include new maps and characters for the game's multiplayer component. No further information on these offerings was made available. Further, no standalone price was provided for The Tyranny of King George or the multiplayer packs, and a Ubisoft representative was not immediately available for comment.

Assassin's Creed III is due out for PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 30, with release following on launch day for Wii U on November 18. The PC version was originally targeted to ship alongside the console iterations, but was delayed to November 20.

@RCBreaker

Nobody here considers him a saint. We consider him a great and modest leader who was the perfect image for a burgeoning nation.

Get over yourselves you ignorant americans. George Washington was a slave owner and a hypocrite just like most americans at the time. Stop speaking about him like he was some saint.

Looks really interesting to see what could have happened to George Washington to get him to accept the throne and then how absolute power corrupts

jpnelson82

well, it makes sense to me, the factual George Washington was offered a crown, and I consider this a nod to the factual history over the mythic history, but just a nod. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Barbary Corsairs DLC later, it was the first foreign misadventure of the states, and has firstly the storming of Tripoli, and secondly the story of the Philadelphia.

Dang... So many people jumping down each other's throats here. If we all could just chill for a moment and get along. No one is a bigger fan of George Washington than I am. He's a hero of mine. He's legendary to say the least. I wasn't pleased when I heard someone say, "you'll have to assassinate George Washington in the first DLC pack for Assassin's Creed 3." After I did some research, I realized it was an alternate scenario in which George Washington accepted the crown as King of America, and because of that power a crown wields he became corrupt. I was fine with that! That sounds pretty cool to me. I can say that knowing the real George Washington rejected the crown because he was wise enough to know what corruption a crown can bring on a man.

So, can we all be friends now? I mean, seriously. We can all agree that AC3 comes out in just over a week or so, and it'll be awesome! I've not been so excited for a game since... I can't even remember. Can I get a w00t?

Sounds interesting. I'm pretty selective about what games I get Season Pass's for. I think I might get this one though.

@mlcarter815 Nah, you missed the point. What I'm saying is, I don't mind some DLC here and there, but when they announce it before the game is even released and give the specifics, i think it shows that they deliberately left content out to charge extra for it.

Ok Ubisoft, I'm ready for the DLC where you assassinate Muhammed, since nothing seems to be off the table. Call it alternate history or a religious parody. Be sure and burn a few flags.

I find it ironic so many people said the British should stop complaining about AC3 and now an ALTERNATE HISTORY DLC is announced about "King" George they're being the hypocrites everybody expected.

Leon_aditzu

I don`t think it about an alternative history, the story should be how Washington was stopped to take a third mandate. USA becoming a democracy was only exception in that time, rest of american countries who became independent had turn in to a dictatorship(by force or unlimited elections) or empire(Mexico and Brazil). And i am very sure that AC3 will have an expansion next autumn like AC2, probably french revolution

know we getting fair dont you think? plus add a little bit of fun since afterall History tells the perspective of the winners not truth itself AC not exception would have liked the same for the damn illuminati and masons not just the poor templars, didnt occult history tells the creation of the country and the sect the same year theres at least two games to milk from this ha

psownsxbox4life
psownsxbox4life

are all these people serious? complaining about george washington being evil in the ALTERNATE story ending on DLC? The main story to the game stays true to the image of Washington that most of us all have and stays about as historically accurate as the rest of their games. If you don't appreciate the idea...dont PAY for the DLC. seems prettttty simple. You DO NOT have to play that version of the story if you don't want to. wow

Frankenstrat247

Hmm.  Might be cool.  Always did find alternate history a little fascinating if well done.  That, of course, is a pretty damn big "IF".

aceventura2000
aceventura2000

Why do they have to distort history so much? History is exciting enough. George Washington was a good man. Even King George saw Washington as a honorable man. Why not make DLC about a true George Washington and his administration. There was alot of wielding and dealing with congress to convice them the importance of a navy, and fighting rebellions, could have done something with that.

tgwolf
tgwolf

That's not even a temptation for George Washington, you losers, he sacrificed more than you mind-burned 'intellectuals' can ever comprehend enthroned as you are in your despicably-immoral, lascivious and chemical-padded minds, and all to LIMIT ABUSE OF POWER!! Nice job taking up the spiritual torch of those tyrants he was working against all odds to ward off in the establishment of the very nation you disgrace while you spam out horrifically violent murder sim games! Way to let your perverted minds drive you to insanity while making a mock of a hero. Don't worry, soon enough your stupidity and decadence will soil this nation's security as it already has begun from the White House with the current 'President' and you'll join the other benighted cynics who degenerate to basket cases from mere loss of luxury!

hartattk
hartattk

Why are people getting pissy about Wash being evil? First it happens in an alternate universe of an alternate history and second he's been corrupted by a piece of Eden which explains the whole tyrant thing.

If anything be angry at the expense and that there will be, at least, 1 other AC after 3 to finish off the story.

ACIII producers are pretty dumb. This DLC is like saying, what if John Adams invented electricity? or how Thomas Jefferson designed the Model T.  We've already enough uneducated spellbound by media with a limited knowledge of our history, this is about as bad as Honey Boo-Boo. ACIII FTL.

kennythomas26

Hey I have been wondering about the Season pass thing cant you still choose which DLC you want or do you have no choice but to get it and you still need to pay something or is it just free DLC with the Season pass. Someone please elaborate for be cause I am very confused.

genjuroT

I bought assassin's creed 1 long time ago. I looked at 2 and thought, what's different? Saw a friend playing Brotherhood when it came out and couldn't tell which one it was. Revelations came out and I didn't even bother looking at it. Now I speculate AC3 will just take out templars and fill the models with redcoats. developer engines make developers extremely lazy and lackluster. It's what happened to cod and resident evil. They created an engine so they can copy paste things. Hideo kojima of metal gear even admitted he created an engine for his new game. I'm tired of seeing the same animations, explosions, buildings, and character models in every game.

hmmm i got the ottoman edition for revelations with full dlc and all tht but seriously i know it is not the main game and so on but like if u already know wht u r releasing and it is probably ready why do u huv to go and rip us off so cheap as if games aren't expensive enough as it is -__-

And this is why there is a lack of new IPs in the game industry.  Gamers will pre-order a sequel and apparently will spend money on a season pass before a game has been finished, played by anyone, or reviewed.  Its just silly in my opinion.  No other industry that I can think of asks consumers to make major purchases based on faith alone, but yet in gaming this is the norm.  "Pre-order our game it will be good, pre-order DLC it will be good, fund game development it will be good" The gaming industry lends creedence to the saying that there is a sucker born every minute

Frimmel
Frimmel

No, I've read more than two biographies of George Washington and plenty of other history of the time period. George W. becoming King in no way is what 'could' have happened. Wow. Now, I'm re-thinking getting the game despite an earnest desire to stab virtual redcoats in the throat.

@buccomatic Yes, because no game, especially when made by non-American studios, should ever portray the US as anything other than the glorious savior of the free world.

 @aceventura2000 Why distort history?

Maybe because this is a game, and that's a DLC not taking itself seriously?

That's so funny. After aaaaall the products coming from the USA using other countries history and great people as fodder for story building, all the time you distorted what really happen, used them in fictions, satire, parodies, or as comedy elements... Finally one game touches one of the US great people, and suddently it's not ok anymore?

I didn't mind so much after all the garbage that some movies or tv shows showed on great people of my country, like Napoleon, Jeanne D'arc, De Gaulle, because i'ts entertainement... but after reading how some people act when it's their own history figures that are retouched (even in an obviously fictional way)... Yea, I'm not so happy anymore.

handspiel

@tgwolf So wait, having the true story of the game being all about establishing America as a free nation with limits on power and the system we have today make's it evil? "Alternate" history means it is something that doesn't/didn't happen. I know it's tough to keep up with us "intellectuals" but I'm pretty sure we, as educated Americans, are perfectly aware of how truly great a man George Washington was. So, instead of ignoring the entire article, making a bunch of assumptions, and proceeding to make an ass out of yourself over a completely fictional game, how about taking an extra 30-seconds out of your day, actually reading what this is about, and then commenting in a concise, accurate, and critical fashion. Thank you for the common courtesy.

aceventura2000
aceventura2000

I think alot of people are more disappointed. I think i rather play something i read from the history books, then someone's fictional world.

Epicurus-Reborn
Epicurus-Reborn

@Suikogaiden omg does any one actually read the articles before commenting??? Ubisoft is not claiming this based on real history. They state multiple times that this is an alternate story. They know its false, and your not suppose to believe otherwise. Only ponder 'what if' and if the story interest you, great. now you have incentive to research the truth on your own.

MrNWatson
MrNWatson

@Suikogaiden Actually, Washington's generals were ready to march on the capitol and install him as king.  The only reason it didn't happen was that Washington himself stopped them, and went to congress to resign his commission.  Of course, the real Washington was a man of honour (on hearing of Washington's resignation, the king of England is said to have exclaimed, "then he is the greatest man of our time."), but it was solely his character that kept it from happening.  So, supposing that he became influenced by a piece of eden, it's not a far stretch at all for Washington to have become king.

SalahDinThe2nD
SalahDinThe2nD

@Suikogaiden  Lol do not tell me you do not know , Geroge Washington was evil in the eyes of Native American, in Reality , they were not working together , So it is not about God or evil , it is about what angle you like from . The whole game is based on a group called Hashasins , they were muslims sect of shia  branch of islam. They never left to europe at all , and there were no assassins in europe nor in america

All the Season Pass is paying for all the DLC (or most as is the case in Forza 4 and some other games) for the game at once while getting a discount for doing so and sometimes early access to the content. You can even wait until all the DLC is out and reviewed and still purchase the Season Pass. Sometimes they even have sales on the Season Pass so you can get all (or most depending upon the game again) at an even greater discount - I did that with both LA Noire and Gears of War 3 where I picked them up at half price last year. You can still only buy certain DLC, but you don't get the discount and once you do, it makes getting a Season Pass for the rest pretty much pointless.

@Frimmel well its an alternate universe/ending to a fictional game that follows closely to actual historical events. so anything could have happened differently because its fiction. The picture also seems to be portraying that he may have been corrupted by the apple of eden. which is another fictional object. so i dont think its too absurd.

MasterAuditore
MasterAuditore

@Frimmel It is widely discussed that some of the continental congress had a discussion with Washington at the end of the revolution about setting up a monarchy, something he did NOT do. Thus this IS an alternate history DLC to what COULD have happened.

the_bi99man
the_bi99man

@Frimmel It's called alternate history. Who cares if it didn't happen, or couldn't possibly have happened? It's just an excuse for a new campaign, which will probably be pretty damn fun.

DeltaMike90
DeltaMike90

@Frimmel Obviously Washington would never have made that choice. The game obviously imagines a very different man from the one who actually lived. Personally, I think it's a cool idea.

But I won't be buying AC3 for it.

You know what I dislike? I dislike it when people over look my entire point on my comment, and just assume too much what i was saying.

I just rather see someone make a historically accurate game. That is all i was trying to say. I dont give a shit if they want to make a fiction about washington. There was so many interesting stories about washington already.

I think you are the one overreacting the most to this article. Im sorry i have a interest in history.

kennythomas26

@dlCHIEF58 Thanks for the clarification on that and that is what I thought it was and you basically still have a choice right.

Frimmel

@psownsxbox4life Corrupted by the Apple of Eden I can get behind a bit more easily than the way the article presents it as just sort of a whim of Washington's. I guess I'm mostly taking issue with the 'could have happened' idea as possibly presenting Washington with considerably more dramatic license in the main game than I'd prefer. I was hit with the idea that maybe Washington would be presented all around 'wrongly.' I'm too far down the AC rabbit hole not to pick up the game though.

Frimmel
Frimmel

@MasterAuditore That he did not after his officers came to him with such ideas ("Let me put on my spectacles as it seems I have not only gone gray but blind in the service of my country") leads me to the idea that being king was not Washington's want at all. He had to be (metaphorically) drug kicking and screaming into the Presidency. With that desire being altogether absent, I don't see where the "could" would have come in except as noted below as a corruption from the Apple.

Might be a good story but the big worry now is that I'll hate the way Washington is portrayed in the main game.

Frimmel
Frimmel

@DeltaMike90 I guess my worry is that the main game will imagine a very different man than the one who actually lived.

@aceventura2000  @Slash_out It was obvious? You see, the tone of a sentence doesn't always conduct well in text.

I also do not believe my answers were "assumptions". Actually from how I wrote them, they can not be, as they are personal opinions on personal experiences.

I continue to answer for the same reason you do.  I might not care what you think, just like you do with my own opinions, that doesn't mean we don't have a point to push.

Anyways, after re-reading my original post I do find it too aggressive, as I was reading up the comment until I reached yours (in the continuation of those previous posts) and decided to make an answer obviously more  influenced by the general tone of the comment section than just your answer.

Althougth I also see, that even thought I was criticizing a bit too hard in a reply to another post (I should have done that in a new post), I believe I remained civil (even if on the edge). Which you did not. So I guess I don't mind. I just sped things up.

Just to put your mind at ease. I won't answer anymore even if you do. That way, you won't be tempted to post again to correct my "foolishness" have the last word.

aceventura2000
aceventura2000

 @Slash_out  @aceventura2000

Dont give me that bull about how you just answering my question, because it was obvious the question was rhetorical...

Also, i explained twice why i would rather see a historically accurate game. My reasoning was clear and concise, and no where near your assumpations..

I dont know why you continue to reply to my comment. If you want to make your own, that is fine, but i really dont care what you think about double standards.

So go spam someone else's gamespot inbox, i dont care what you think about this DLC anymore.

Slash_out
Slash_out

@aceventura2000 I didn't say you were over reacting. I said the double standard was making me "not so happy".

And I did answer to what you were saying didn't I ?

"Why do they have to distort history so much?"

---

"Why distort history?

Maybe because this is a game, and that's a DLC not taking itself seriously?"

isn't this reason enough? Why should they even have to be historically accurate?

And yes I have an interest in history, Which is why I cringe every time I see a production (mostly from the USA) that just butcher it and try to make it seem as the truth.

But it doesn't mean that parodies, satire, and "what if stories" aren't ok.

I guess I'd have an easier time if I didn't see this double standard on every news/post about an american historcal figure.

SalahDinThe2nD
SalahDinThe2nD

@Suikogaiden  Not much ,  but i know he is not consider good to them , even native american of this time , they do not look to him as good , but as evil , he killed many of them . so why would  they consider him good,  killing innocent people does not make you a hero .  you were implying that he was  a good , so i all i was saying was that he may be good in your eyes, but the eye of Britain and native american he is not good , but evil , so it does not matter if Ubisoft did so. Ubisoft already altered the story of The Ottoman sultans in Revelation , and in Assassins Creed, so i see no problem in having a different George , The Historical George is not good or evil to me, since i do not care about him

Black_Hand_313
Black_Hand_313

 @Suikogaiden  @SalahDinThe2nD

Notice his hand on the Piece of Eden. More than likely it corrupted him. Being such a respected figure - and a friend of Connor - is what would make such a betrayal interesting.

SalahDinThe2nD: Washington posthumously promoted a Native American chief who died fighting with the patriots to the rank of Captain, later advocated purchasing land from Native Americans instead of driving them off outright, and made a promise to respect the Cherokee nation (a promise that sadly was broken, but not by Washington). Remember he fought Native Americans during the French and Indian War - there was basis in his distrust of them. I think he is judged by Native Americans largely for his personal beliefs (admittedly he did think they were inferior) and wartime actions (he destroyed villages that supplied the British)
