The Darkness II won't be the only game originally scheduled to ship on October 4 to miss its release date. Twisted Metal developer Eat Sleep Play today announced that the car-combat game will miss its date in early October and will instead arrive in early 2012.

Eat Sleep Play cofounder David Jaffe announced the news on the PlayStation Blog today, saying he understands fans have been excited about the project, "but the truth is: we're just not ready yet." Jaffe said pushing the game from October to early 2012 will give Eat Sleep Play more time to "polish our demented baby until it shines."

Though Twisted Metal has slipped from its previously scheduled fall release window, Sony is still bringing out a number of PS3 exclusives during that release window. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Resistance 3, and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One are all scheduled to arrive in the fall season.

Besides a campaign mode, Twisted Metal will sport two-player split-screen action, as well as online battles. For more on the upcoming car-combat title, check out GameSpot's latest preview of Twisted Metal.
