Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has reached No.1 in the UK physical games chart in its debut week, becoming the first Mario title to come top since 2008's Mario Kart Wii. For the week ending April 29, the Switch port also became Nintendo's first UK No.1 since Pokemon White in 2011, according to sales monitor Chart-Track.

Below the arcade racer, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 debuts at No.2, despite mixed reviews and a number of technical issues--including a last-minute delay to its multiplayer modes.

Grand Theft Auto V continues to chart well at No.3, while Bandai Namco's Little Nightmares is another new entry at No.4. Our critic Matt Espineli called the puzzle-platformer "a chilling odyssey well worth taking," despite its brief length. Check out our full Little Nightmares review for more.

Replenished stock helps The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild climb from No.10 to No.5, meanwhile, with the rest of the top 10 made up of a number of familiar faces.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's strong start comes despite only being on sale for two days at the time the charts were recorded. The title's opening week success was reflected in the US, too, where it became the "fastest-selling game" in Mario Kart franchise history with nearly 460,000 copies sold. We enjoyed the Nintendo racer here at GameSpot; critic Kallie Plagge said it was already a "great racing game," but the overhaul of Battle Mode makes it "well worth reinvesting yourself in Mario Kart 8 on Switch." For more, take a look at our full Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review.
