The Witcher 3 shown off with tantalising new screenshots

Take a peek at Geralt's next adventure for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Polish developer CD Projekt Red has shown off upcoming RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt again via three impressive new screenshots.

Two of the screens show series protagonist Geralt on horseback, first encountering the remains of a battle and later observing a group on the other side of a lake. Between his equestrian jaunts, Geralt is also shown about to intervene as two ruffians assault somebody on a cobbled city street.

The screens were made available to commemorate the developer opening its new forums.

The Witcher 3 is one of the first RPGs that seems to be embracing the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. CD Projekt Red has said it would be "impossible" to create the game for 360/PS3, and that the game is already close to maxing out the power of the new consoles.

CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 3 will be an open-world adventure, thanks to its work on its proprietary REDengine 3. It has been said that the game is 35 times the size of its predecessor.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due to be released for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 at some point in 2014.

Beautiful screenshots. In previous never played but I dig them from somewhere. I will have to invest in new equipment is necessary. For some good titles: The Witcher of course, Lords of the Fallen, Battlefield .... and something else will make. My machine can't handle: D hehehhe

you know what i really love about these screens? the complete lack of incredibly obnoxious bloom/hdr effects. props to them for actually going outside to understand how the sun works

also it might be just me but it looks slightly more....cartoony? i dunno, it kind of reminds me of fable for some reason

I've finally started W2, and to be honest.........it has the worst mostest terrible irritating UI I've ever used. The rest however is pure silky goodness, is there a good UI mod on nexus?

Also in keeping with my random nonsense, I can't recall seeing specs guessed at for this. Anyone know? Will my beloved 7750hd eek me through it?

This game makes me want to upgrade my PC.

Aside from sick PC gear (my mouse/keyboard don’t’ go well with a Lazyboy/46inchTV), if you have to take this to console, I would assume that everyone wants to play this game in full HD. The Wild Hunt may have ended for my choice in console.

 My rig is:

Asus 670 GTX.

Intel Core i5-3570-k

16 GB of DDR3 RAM.

SSD + HDD.

Wondering if I can play this game on good settings, Ultra maybe. And how many frames will I get.

It all depends in optimization...

What do you think guys?

I thought of buying the next NVidia Card (8**) when the game comes out.

CDPR are the best of the devs! Love their games, they really pour their heart out in every single detail.

I thought it was Assassins Creed until I saw the title of this game.

I hope the dialogue isnt so ropey this time. That was the only thing I didnt like about the last game, even though the dialogue was often good. It was mostly Geralt actually...

I remember the first Witcher purchased on PC, built within the Never Winter Nights engine, terrible bugs, slow to load but surprisingly pretty & unusual (at the time) dark adult plot.  Even then CD Projekt Red were a class act about the problems, they apologised, said they were working on an enhanced edition that would address the bugs and be free to those who purchased the original.  They were also honest about why they needed to release it before it was totally ready as they frankly needed the money.  Now look at them, one of the AAA games on next gen (and PC as always).  One of the studios I purchase from without hesitation, day 1 class act imo

The more I look at these screens, the more I wonder if my PC will run this well enough that the graphics will look this epic in game....

Some Triss and Yennefer pics would've been better. And a release date, that's currently all I want.

Wait what, CD Projekt Red said it's maxing the powers of the new consoles?

Either this means this game is good, or that the new consoles are not that much better than the old one.....

really hope the animations are better this time .. smooth and organic instead of the stiff ones from before..

@GunEye  I don't see you getting any less than 30 fps at ultra, assuming you're playing at 1080p. I keep my antialiasing low (around 4x or so) so you could probably pull upwards of 45.

@Wintereich  Lol so many people do this I swear April-June must be the best time to be selling PC hardware

@Goddammitj Do you mean the delivery or the script? I don't remember the script being that inconsistent, to be honest. If anything it was significantly better than the competition.

@Goddammitj What do you mean by ropey...?  I honestly have no idea!  Maybe like kind of stilted, or unnatural sounding..?

For me a new Witcher game is an occasion to upgrade. On one hand it sucks to spend money on a computer but, on another one, how can we not want to play such a game in it's full glory?

@RC-Sev Release:  End of this year.  That's all you need to know!

+1 for Triss pics though...

@MN121MN You must be joking?! New consoles outperform those old ones by large margin. You just don't see that in the graphics department and especially not in-motion stills called screenshots. But granted they are not as good as they should in 2014.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@SpicaAntares  I basically built my current PC for The Witcher 2 after trying it on a laptop and I just wasn't satisfied with a low resolution on a small screen with a low frame rate... I never looked back!  Now as tempted as I am to upgrade for TW3 I could probably make small graphical sacrifices and be happy.. but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a nice tax return this year... :)  I'm way too easily swayed to spend $300 on my PC while I feel like that's a lot of money when considering other purchases lol.

@snaketus@MN121MN I think the point is they are crap compared to the PC version. Simply Witcher series was a PC game ported to consoles. Witcher series is one of those few games that utilizes a ton of new hardware on PC's.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@sammoth @rkrams1989   I think I know what he's getting at, and it wasn't exactly smooth on PC.  While the animations themselves were good, the transitions were often jerky, and it seemed like they didn't have enough reaction/gesture animations in the dialogue scenes, so you'd see the same animation over and over and it would eventually come off as looking kind of stiff after seeing it repeated so many times without any alteration.  It wasn't a huge drawback but it's something I noticed and it really jumps out at me now playing through the game for a 4 or 5th time.  I'm sure it's something they've been working on though, they have said their animation system wasn't fully completed or tweaked with the release of TW2, and they've been adjusting it in preparation for TW3.

@benelori @ChiefReaver@GunEye Lmfao!! Care to back that stupid statement up with some hard evidence? AA is applied to the graphics before it even hits the monitor so even with a higher resolution monitor/ TV, AA will still make a difference. People spout some right shit on here. Just the other day someone was banging on about about how 30Fps and 60Fps makes no diffeence. I swear people like you who make these insane statements have never played games on high settings.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@Goddammitj  yea I totally get what you're saying,  there were definitely a few instances of that in TW2, and you're probably right about most of it being on Geralts end from what I remember.  It was much better than in TW1 though  (it's actually incredibly hard to believe it's mostly the same voice actors) and CDPR seems to pride themselves on consistent improvement, so here's hoping the actors have had more coaching and the direction will be even better... I don't think we need to worry :)
