Controversial zombie shooter The War Z has been removed from Steam. A Valve representative told Kotaku that the game was mistakenly published in the digital store and will not return until the company speaks with developer Hammerpoint Interactive. A listing for The War Z remains available, but the game cannot be purchased at this time.

"From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam," the Valve representative said. "We apologize for this and have temporary [sic] removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build."

Gamers who already purchased The War Z can continue to play it. Those who bought the game and are not satisfied can seek a refund by opening a support ticket at Valve's website.

Following its launch on Monday, users began reporting numerous issues with The War Z. Many players criticized the game and developer Hammerpoint for being misleading and for censoring their comments about issues with the game.
