Superhot Releasing On Nintendo Switch Today

Manipulate time and shatter your enemies in Superhot on Switch.

During Nintendo's Gamescom Indies Showcase stream it announced that Superhot, the first-person shooter developed by Superhot Team, will be available on Switch today. Superhot is an incredibly stylish title that has more in common with puzzle games than traditional first-person shooters.

The main conceit of the game is that time only moves forward when the player character is moving. This means you're able to use the suspension of time to carefully choreograph impressive gunfights where you methodically move through environments weaving between bullets and taking out enemies with pinpoint accuracy. However, what initially begins as a simple kill-everything-to-win experience quickly reveals itself to have an interesting narrative that subverts your expectations.

Superhot on Switch features all-new adjustable gyroscope aiming and optional motion controls. It runs at 60 frames per second and is "fully optimized for the Switch," according to the official press release. "We love the Switch, said Superhot Team co-founder Tom Kaczmarczyk. |Our team spent months and months and months making sure we did a great job bringing Superhot to the most innovative video gaming system we've played in years.

"Full gyro controls make the game incredibly more immersive – you really feel like an action hero, you use your whole body to dodge hails of slow motion bullets. It’s a feeling we worked hard to evoke on PC and other consoles but Superhot on Switch just takes it to an entirely new level."

In GameSpot's Superhot review Peter Brown said, "While the core gameplay didn't evolve drastically, the story that drives it did, taking me along for a ride that I never saw coming. In doing so, it opened my eyes to possibilities within the game that I never considered. Superhot is a clever game with deep, hidden elements that require committed and thorough examination."

Since its initial launch in February 2016, Superhot has been made available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It also became playable in VR through PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. More recently, a version for Oculus Quest was released.

On August 15, developer Superhot Team announced a new fund aimed at helping independent studios make and release small, unusual games. The first two games to receive assistance are The Haunted Island, a Frog Detective Game, developed by Grace Bruxner and her new studio Worm Club, and Knuckle Sandwich, developed by Andrew Brophy.
