The Flame in the Flood takes place in "post-societal" America. Your goal is to survive, and as the trailer above shows, it's a pretty hostile and unforgiving world out there.

You travel down a procedurally generated river, making stops to forage and craft items--and avoid animals like bears and boars. Assisting you on your journey is your dog, Aesop, who can use its nose to find supplies.

Additionally, the game has an original soundtrack composed by Chuck Ragan, formerly of the band Hot Water Music.

The Flame in the Flood is Boston-based The Molasses Flood's first game. The studio, which describes itself as a "company of AAA refugees," formed after BioShock developer Irrational Games closed down in 2014. Forrest Dowling, who worked at Irrational on BioShock Infinite, is the CEO of The Molasses Flood.

Some of the developer's other team members worked on franchises like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Halo.

The Flame in the Flood was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2014, raising more than $250,000.
