The big screen reboot of Tomb Raider is now in production, and the first on-set images have appeared. They show star Alicia Vikander in action as Lara Croft--check them out below, via @vikanderonline:

Last week it was reported that Dominic West (The Wire) will play Lara's father in the film. He joins Walton Goggins (Sons of Anarchy), who plays the bad guy, and Daniel Wu (Warcraft) as a ship captain who works with Croft on her adventure. The untitled Tomb Raider film comes to theaters on March 16, 2018.

Last year, director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) lauded the 2013 reboot game and said his movie will try to do something similar. "I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well," he said. "I think we'll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I'm hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise."

No new Tomb Raider games have been announced. However, a sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider is expected, given the story that began with the 2013 reboot has been described as a trilogy. According to a leak, the name of the third game is Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
