A new design for Valve's Steam Controller has been revealed. It's not that different from the version we saw in July, though it does feature some form of a D-pad on top of or alongside the left track pad.

The image above was pulled from files within the latest Steam Client Beta update, revealed by Valvetime. The purpose of the new D-pad is unknown, but Valvetime suggests it might tweak traditional D-pad functionality and allow for more directional input than the regular four points of motion.

We have reached out to Valve for comment on the leaked Steam Controller design.

Steam Controllers were at one time believed to go on sale by the end of 2014, but it appears that's not going to happen. So when might we get our next official look at the Steam Controller?

Valve's Doug Lombardi told Techradar in November that the company isn't attending the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month, opting to show its latest developments at the 2015 Game Developers Conference in March 2015.
