NBA 2K17 Might Be Poking Fun at an Old NBA Live Glitch

Remember Jesus Bynum?

As the saying goes, you shouldn't punch down, but it appears the team behind NBA 2K17 may not subscribe to that mentality.

2K has been the dominant NBA simulation series for years now, with the low point for EA's rival NBA Live series likely coming in 2010, when it had been temporarily rebranded NBA Elite. A hilarious video (NSFW language) of an NBA Elite 11 demo circulated that showed a glitch that caused the Lakers' Andrew Bynum to strike a t-pose at midcourt, where he was permanently stuck. Just prior to the game's launch, it was delayed and later canceled altogether. We wouldn't see a new game in the series for three years.

2K17, apparently not content with being the best-selling NBA game every year, seemingly pokes fun at that Bynum bug with one of the squad intros in the newly released 2K17 Prelude demo. As pointed out by Operation Sports' Steve Noah (via Polygon), one intro is entitled Glitch and has a player striking a t-pose. Check it out above.

Polygon notes it may have been in previous games. It's also possible this isn't a jab at NBA Live/Elite specifically, as the t-pose isn't exclusive to those games, even if the so-called Jesus Bynum glitch is one of the more famous instances of it. Whatever the case, it's a funny option to have in the game.

2K17 launches on September 20, although preordering lets you get your hands on it early. You can also download the aforementioned Prelude version to get a head start on creating your own player.
