Modern Warfare 3 DLC hits January 24

Infinity Ward teases latest Call of Duty add-on through Twitter with first image from new map drawing from Bethesda Fountain in New York City's Central Park.

While Activision has already released some of its premium video shows for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty Elite subscribers are still waiting for the meat of the service, a year's worth of downloadable content for Infinity Ward's record-breaking first-person shooter. The wait ends next month, as Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has announced a January 24 launch date for a Modern Warfare 3 add-on.

A peek at the new Modern Warfare 3 DLC.

The news came in a Twitter post from Bowling that included a picture of a map named "Park" that appears to be set around the distinctive Bethesda Fountain in New York City's Central Park. Bowling called the map "some of the first" DLC for the game and promised more info would arrive next month.

Activision has touted Modern Warfare 3 as the biggest launch in entertainment history after a single day on shelves and then again after five days. Earlier this month, the publisher reiterated the notion, saying Modern Warfare 3 reached $1 billion faster than any other entertainment property, needing just 16 days on sale.

As for Call of Duty Elite, Activision has said the subscription service for its first-person shooter series reached 1 million paid users last month. Elite provides players with gameplay statistics, video sharing, and clan support features for free. Those who shell out for the $50 annual subscription will also receive all downloadable content released in the year, as well as exclusive video content and other perks.

@Leir_Bag Dang... I thought I was over this. Wow, has it been over a month? Listen, I'm done with the whole CoD thing now, I've pretty much given up on it as a legitimately debatable subject. I don't want to bother with it, or even mention it's existence, I've moved on. I do respect your opinion on the matter, and respect the response even after a LONG TIME of nothing, but all that means is you're busy and probably have a life. I just wanna drop the subject and NEVER bring it back up. I could honestly not care less than I do now. I'm best looking forward to a "good" shooter called BIOSHOCK INFINITE, and would much rather talk about that with a positive attitude, rather than the video game's equivalent to Twilight. I will however clarify by saying I do NOT hate CoD. I hate Modern Warfare. I love every CoD BEFORE MW2 when it got really bad. Thanks, I'm glad you understand my side of things, but I'm really just plain SICK of talking about CoD, I only bother with the franchises I like now. I'm tired of hating.

@dxBIGBOSSxb : I wish I checked my message box every day, damn, it's been a month since this post. I find it very good that you need to state your opinion, I have the same need. I wish I could just ignore the milions of jerks I find on every gaming website. But you are not a jerk, I'm sorry I made you feel like that. I just think you should consider that all this CoD hating is due to it's huge popularity, it's denial to make serious changes to the sequels, some greedy moves from the developer, rather than the game being actually this bad. I think, from a living person's point of view, that when popularity makes something hated for some, for the majority it could be loved, even if you don't see people saying good things about it so often. Twilight is hated everywhere, I never see someone saying good stuff about it, but I know lots of people love it. And since I don't know your sources, then I'll still keep my point. Your friends are probably what we are usued to call "hardcore gamers". Maybe CoD is more suited for casual gamers, or maybe people who like it fell afraid to manifest this... "love" for the game, since people like to troll CoD lovers. Or whatever. Doesn't really matter to me, I play Battlefield anyways. And I don't really like "military simulators" that much (I would call them FPS, but the fact is that there are FPSs that don't try to simulate military reality that much, so...)

@Leir_Bag What are you talking about?! First, my favorite game franchise is Final Fantasy and not CoD. Second, when did i say that CoD is better than every game in the genre? I may prefer it over the rest but i don't think the game is inherently "better". I agree with you on the knife point but can you tell me there isn't anything dumb like that in BF? I can think of one that is equally stupid, lol. @Hellknite190 Popular does = Good....That's why its popular. What matter's is who likes it and why and who doesn't like it and why. CoD4 was extremely popular, does that make it not good? @dxBIGBOSSxb President of the debate club? Then you should know that when you make arguments you should be able to back them up. You keep mentioning all these vague stats and "absolute facts" without mentioning sources. You said that "i've read on sites, checked statistics, and talked to a lot of people and read hundreds or even thousands of top comments actively attacking CoD." What sites? What statistics and where can i find them? What people and why do their opinions carry so much weight? So you're a gamer, what's your point in telling us that?

@dxBIGBOSSxb You obviously haven't been paying attention. I'm not arguing that exclusives no longer exist, but they aren't nearly as relevant as they used to be, and for good reason. Most of the games you mentioned have decent reviews at best. Jak and Daxter hasn't even seen a game on PS3 (unless you include the collection, which I don't) and doesn't seem like it ever will. FFXIV would've been (and still might be in the future) for 360 but developers had issues with setting it up on Xbox Live, therefore they cancelled the project, at least for now. But the fact that it's for PC as well proves that it's not even an exclusive anyway. As for the future games, I wouldn't pin much hope on them being blockbuster hits or anything. And you can't bring up past exclusives, because that was not my point. I'm talking about the present and future of exclusive games, not the past. I'm not even specifically picking on PS3, because most of the 360s exclusives aren't all that great either. But despite the fact that they have far less exclusive games than PS3, Xbox 360 has been far better-selling and is more popular, proving that exclusives are apparently not really a deciding factor.

dxBIGBOSSxb
dxBIGBOSSxb

@W30bball Of course they still all feature prominently, each game is still in continuation and many people still play all of them, including me. Final Fantasy still holds exclusives, and while FF XIII 1-2 are multiconsole, there still are held exclusives in Final Fantasy. FF XIII-Versus is PS3 exclusive as well as (Unfortunately), FF XIV on the PS3 and P.C... ugh. there are still R&C games being made (Still fun with good reviews), Jak and Daxter is still continuing, Star Hawk is the recent sequel to War Hawk, Sly is having another game (Looks good), and the others are still cherished. Also, it doesn't even matter if the games are old (Since that's what I'm getting from you), they are still exclusives that people occasionally play and many are being rebooted. Katamari is still the number 1 PSN arcade game, Gran Turismo is the competition against Forza and is still loved by car enthusiasts, and both The Last of Us and The Last Guardian are recent announcements adding more exclusives to the already vast collection. So you're wrong in other words. While you disagree you can't deny there are still more exclusives in the PS3 library still alive than anything Xbox (Or even Nintendo in some cases) can hope to accomplish. Over 20 active exclusives in America (Even more in Japan), outnumbering the 360 5-1.

@djpetitte You have only proven your own immaturity and ignorance with your last post.Your comments have no thought or merit behind them, and are just blind attacks against those who do not agree with your opinion. You obviously have nothing of value to say, so do yourself and everyone else a favor: keep it to yourself.

xTheTrueSeekerx
xTheTrueSeekerx

@dxBIGBOSSxb I disagree. Of the PS3 exclusives you named, there are only a handful of them that are still prominent today, including Killzone, Resistance,Metal Gear, Infamous, Uncharted, God of War, and Little Big Planet. Demon Souls has a "spiritual successor" called dark souls, available on 360 as well. Final Fantasy is no longer an exclusive as of 13 (but, who really cares anyway. The days of good FF games are dead.) And honestly, I've played most of these games, and they are pretty good, but I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for those. Wii and PC exclusives are a different story though, because they offer a much different form of gameplay than PS3 and XBOX 360 can, plus nintendo actually owns the rights to most their exclusives.

My friend's uncle recently bought MW3 and asked me if is was good, I kinda lied and said yes just to avoid hurting his feelings and making him feel like he wasted his money. I kinda felt bad for him, but he's almost 50 so I guess it's understandable that he doesn't has much sense when it comes to games.

COD is a game for the general public snd that's the only reason it does so well, its not becuase it this amazing game. It's because it's aimed to sell to just about everyone not just hardcore gamers The reason I know this is because people who aren't into gaming at all know the name COD and think its cool. I myself am a hardcore gamer so I play BF on pc and laugh at cod on console, as it is such a joke now.

dxBIGBOSSxb
dxBIGBOSSxb

@Leir_Bag The biggest factor is that only the big fans of CoD paid for Elite, with about 1 million. With that, only a few million (I think 4) even bothered to sign up. Now look at the numbers. Only about 4-5 million real fans play the game (With a game like CoD, it's remarkable, you're either a fan, or not with few exceptions like you), and I know for a fact more people hate the game than 4-5 million. I'm sorry I'm giving you mountains of text, but that's the price i pay for having been the president of the debate club back in high school. I may never know you yet I feel the need to state my opinion. It's a problem I have to overcome on the internet as there are millions out there who challenge others everyday in a game of words. My head hurts, I need to get to work. It was nice chatting with you, and sorry again for being a jerk, it's just my political nature. I haven't lost my belief in ethics and I do treat CoD fans like crap and I'm a terrible person on the "internets" for that, but they do the same defending a VIDEO GAME, to the point they threaten to kill me because I said the Ak-47 is overpowered. Yeah I don't feel bad for making fun of them and proving them wrong.

dxBIGBOSSxb
dxBIGBOSSxb

@Leir_Bag Sorry, but I just now read the last paragraph since I stopped reading half-way without realizing it, lol. But that is not true. "One person may hate it, but a thousand like it?", I'm sorry, but you're not more wrong. I've read on sites, checked statistics, and talked to a lot of people and read hundreds or even thousands of top comments actively attacking CoD. Every time someone says something good about it, they get dozens of thumbs down, while those who hate get get the opposite. The game has gained national claim in America and the U.K, but is mocked in other European country's, is considered insulting in Russia (Pretty much everyone in THAT country alone hates it), is laughed by a lot much better gamers in Japan and Korea, and isn't cared for much in Australia, since because of their country's strict censorship on game violence, they could care less about CoD and just want to play other games that they never experienced yet. CoD is relatively bloodless outside of a the Jelly thrown on your face when you get hit. It's not that like of a game. One post said CoD now had 30 million players, but how about the people who turned their copies in (Almost half return ratings globally)? Or the trolls who bought the game to be jerks? Or just the casual gamers that have their copy collect dust? Suddenly that number shrinks considerably.

dxBIGBOSSxb
dxBIGBOSSxb

@W30bball While it's true exclusives are pretty much dead on THE XBOX, with only 4 noteworthy ones: Halo (Fanboy fest), Gears (Fanboy fest), Fable (Which most hate), and Forza (Nothing bad to really say, if you're a car fan you'lll love it). I can list dozens of exclusives on consoles like the PS3, PC, and Wii. They all hold over dozen (The P.C a few dozen) great exclusives. I'll just list the PS3 since it's really early and I'm tired: Ratchet and Clank series, Jak and Daxter series, Sly series, Killzone, Resistance, Demon Souls, Metal Gear solid, iNfamous, Uncharted, Final Fantasy (The good games, screw 13), God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavy Rain, Katamari, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, SOCOM, and Star/War Hawk, just to name the ones off my head. I play the 360 most of the time, since I don't even own a PS3, nor do I have a good P.C, but I keep myself ahead of the curb by updating my knowledge of gaming information by either visiting websites like Gamespot, subscribe to Gameinformer, or talk to my friends across the seas. I only listed PS3, and those weren't even ALL the exclusives, there are still tons on systems like the Wii, and P.C (Which has even more than both combined). The Xbox is outclassed in terms of exclusives, true, but everything else? Exclusives are just as strong as they were 20 years ago.

Just like @W30bbball said why would developers settle for half the industry? same thing i say to gamers why debat over ps3 vs 360 or mw3 and battlefield 3 just get both! if you dont have one or the other then your missing out! and to say one is better then the other is just stupid and must say to yourself.........YOU ARE NOT A REAL GAMER! @W30bball It actually makes me kinda sad that the amount of exclusives are going down. PS3 exclusives are the only reason I ever play on my PS3. Last time I played on it was when I finished Uncharted 3. There needs to be more exclusives, not less goddamnit!

Hellknite190
Hellknite190

@x_hunter00 Popular =/= Good. You gotta take into account that one of the reasons for the game's success is that it sells on name recognition, and that the vast majority of people who play CoD are folks on consoles who actually play nothing else. @Lier_Bag CoD 4 was great. Nothing really significant has been added since, with the exception of Spec Ops (and arguably Zombies), which I personally find kinda fun.

xTheTrueSeekerx
xTheTrueSeekerx

@xsonicchaos Spec Ops missions, Survival missions, Campaign missions (supposedly), and new Multiplayer modes to name a few. @dxBIGBOSSxb Console exclusives are a thing of the past, bro, and thank god for that. The amount of exclusives have shrunk massively, and for good reeason. Why would developers settle for half of what they can make on a single game? Most exclusives aren't that great anyway, honestly. @Leir_Bag Nailed it. That's what I've been trying to say, but I guess you're better with words than I am. ;)

dxBIGBOSSxb

@Leir_Bag Honestly, I'm sick of fighting CoD fans, but I'm not afraid to say I know much more and am a better gamer than them. I know that sounds pompous to say, but it's true. There are better games than CoD, there are better movies and books than Twilight and Transformers, and there is MUCH better music than Bieber. I am right. I hate fighting these people. Again, I understand what you're saying and yes I am being a complete Jacka** for saying this, but I am not wrong here, I am merely mocking what is currently being mocked world wide in today's form of morality.

@Leir_Bag Buddy... I work in international trade. I have friends who live in Japan, Germany, China, Venezuela, Mexico, Turkey, South Korea, Britain, France, Russia, Australia and lastly North America. While I am an American I have the luxury of keeping in contact with friends across country's far outside my own. They're gamers like me (That's how we met. In international expos) and they and I, as well as people they know that I don't know, do NOT like the CoD games. My friends in Germany are proud of Crysis and consider that their best shooter, and Japan and Korea has games we would never even dream of in their world of exclusivity, so they don't care about games like CoD, Battlefield, or Halo. I do believe that justifies my claim of international hate towards CoD. Other countrys honestly mock us and England for being so engrossed in CoD. If you look clearly on the little map in the CoD games that shows all of the areas CoD is played, you will notice mostly ALL of it resides in America and the U.K. Don't get me wrong, I really like that you're trying to break up a childish argument.

@x_hunter00 And you comit the simple mistake of blindly believing that your favorite franchise is better than every other game in it's genre, which is just as arrogant as you accuse people of being. If you don't think other games are as good as CoD, you don't have to prove that to anyone, and your taste doesn't have to be judge for what game is better or what game is worse. I find it very stupid that one simple knife stroke is catastrophically more efficient than a machine gun bursts of shots. Yeah, if you put a knife in my throat it might be really effective, but if I shoot your throat I bet it will be just as effective. That knife abuse aways killed the game for me, as the single player campaign lasts 4/5 hours only. Tha gameplay is great, it's just too short, and not worth 50/60 bucks for is. Maybe 40/35 after some months/years. CoD is great, but is no holy grail, and you need to realize that.

Leir_Bag
Leir_Bag

@dxBIGBOSSxb : @x_hunter00 : Both you guys have extreme and opposite opinions about the same subject. And because something is so extreme, in my head, I would call both opinions wrong. dzBIGBOSSxb, if you live surrounded by people that hate CoD, well, that's something. And yeah, because CoD is popular, obviously, more haters are appearing, just like everything that eventually ends up being too popular, like Justin Bieber or Twilight. Do you really think these are hated worldwide, just because people arround you hate it? I'm sorry buddy, but you're wrong. For every Bieber hater there is at least 10 histerical 13/14 or 15 years old teenagers who absolutely love him, and while I find that very sad, those teenagers don't. The same thing with Twilight, lots of teenagers love the movies, and basically every women in the world likes the books. And those women watch the movies, even though it's so crappy. So, I'm sorry, CoD is not hated. For every one of you who hates it, there are thousands who love it. I'm not very found of it, but even I think it's really good. I am a complete Battlefield fanboy since Bad Company, but I'm smart enough not to surrender to the hater "energy" and I admit that CoD is good. I find hard that an FPS lover would actualy think it is bad. Infinity Ward took a choice to just make more content every year instead of innovating gameplay and graphics, just because people like that and you don't, doesn't mean you have to hate it.

dxBIGBOSSxb
dxBIGBOSSxb

@x_hunter00 I'm sorry but all I heard was, "Wahhhh! Wahhhh! You make me made saying stuff! Wahhhh! *Question, Question, act pissed* Wahhhh!" Resorting to kindergarten levels of retort hurts me in more ways then one, but your argument seriously just came off like a whining b***. You're so mad, and so upset because I dare state the OBVIOUS. My statement about you being outnumbered... true. Check anything, forums, youtube videos, any posts, ANYTHING that mentions CoD and you'll see the highest rated comments and most replies are people actively hating CoD. People put it on par as to video games what Twilight, and Bieber are to Cinema, Literature, and Music. Face it, CoD is a mockery, people hate it. Eveyone I know hates it, and the people I know who like it are outnumbered on a 4-1 ratio. Yeah, it has sales, but so do those other popular forms of media. Get over yourself, honestly, I could give a care less what you think because all I read was a hurt CoD fanboy who probably doesn't even know why I'm really laughing at him right now. It's like Trek, and Doctor Who fans with you. If you just admit what you like is bad, you might actually enjoy it more, but no, you assume this game is a masterpiece when it's just Average at best.

x_hunter00
x_hunter00

@dxBIGBOSSxb Ahh this why i say the things i say. Only a few million like it and billions hate it? Where did you come up with this figure? Another thing that annoys me is when people like you think that not liking CoD somehow makes you better than those who do like it. The outright arrogance is infuriating. Outlcassed? How the heck was i outclassed?! As for your statement of better shooters and PC, don't make it sound that what you say is the truth and stop making blanket statements by using words like "everyone". There are thousands who like/play CoD on the PC and respect it. ARMA, BF, CS are not better shooters in themselves. People may favor those over others but they are not "better". The arrogance and lack of objectivity...

@x_hunter00 That is so absolutely not true it makes me laugh. What you just said about being "Outnumbered" is the exact same thing Twilight, and Bieber fans say to there respective haters. You may have a few million on your side, but those who hate it number in the billions. You're outclassed and your thumbs up-down ratio proves it. Everyone on the P.C treats Modern Warfare like a joke (Especially in comparison to much better shooters like ARMA, Battlefield, and CS), and PS3 players get amazing exclusives (Too many to count), the only real idiots that support it are Xbox goers (Me being one of them) mainly because they only have about 4 note-worthy exclusives while the P.C and PS3 have dozens.

@djpetitte I disagree over the whole sports games issue, but that was never my point to begin with. And I find bf just as stale as you find cod. And all 9 DLC packs are included with Elite for free and it's not just new maps, but also new missions and such.

djpetitte
djpetitte

@W30bball Theres no reason ANY or all games should be 60 bones new, but to me a sports games make more sense annually than having new cod's every single year with several map packs a year for 15 dollars that equal the price of an entirely new game if not more and now adding elite on top of that, It's absurd and a rip off. Also I wouldnt call bf slow, its extremely easy to spawn in right in the action if you want, but not always the best choice because it's not easy an takes real skill. cod had made me board because the mp is the same thing over and over again, literally. anything can happen in bf. its just annoying when ppl at work that I know arent into gaming at all come and talk cod because thats the only name they now and I have sit and pretend its cool.. makes me dislike the game more and more everytime. yes im a hater and like ppl to know it here online lol.

xTheTrueSeekerx
xTheTrueSeekerx

@djpetitte First off, theres no excuse for sports games coming out every year for $60 when they could just make a feature that updates the rosters as they happen. Secondly, im nit even saying i LOVE cod, but if im in the mood to play a fps, i pick cod because its fast paced and exciting. BF is way too slow for me, and frankly i get bored. The concept is fantastic though, and i love that buildings are destructible. But in my opinion the real beauty of cod is the fact that you dont HAVE to buy every game. For instance i did not like black ops so i stuck with mw2 until mw3 came out. Either way, if you dont like cod, thats fine. But go b*&%$ about it somewhere else.

darkangel494
darkangel494

Quite possibly the worst money spent by me this year. Also I thought they were releasing dlc every month for mw3. If it took them 4 months to release this (which is most likely maps from the single player imported to multiplayer) then at most we will see 4 packs which really is not worth the elite membership.
