Metal Gear Solid 5 Xbox One/PS4/PC Supports 16 Players, Fewer on Last Gen
You'll be playing with a different number of people in Metal Gear Online depending on your platform.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's multiplayer mode, the new iteration of Metal Gear Online, supports a different number of players in the current-gen and last-gen versions of the game.
That's according to The Phantom Pain's Japanese website (via Videogamer), which lists the player count as 1-16 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, by contrast, will support a maximum of just 12 players.

It's unclear if there will be any other changes between the multiplayer mode on those systems, such as maps being shrunk to account for the number of players (like in Battlefield 3). Unlikely as that may be, we've contacted Konami to find out about any other differences across platform generations.
Konami announced in December that Metal Gear Online would be included as a free component of The Phantom Pain. It's not the first Metal Gear Solid game to include such a feature; Metal Gear Solid 4 also included a 16-player online mode called Metal Gear Online.
Despite the reported issues between creator Hideo Kojima and Konami, The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1 (September 15 on PC). Kojima remains at work on the game, but will reportedly leave developer Kojima Productions following its completion.
