In the lead-up to Rise of the Tomb Raider's release in November, Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics have announced a special limited-edition poster series inspired by Lara Croft and the adventure series.

There will be four in all, each of which aims to highlight the game's "unique and thrilling themes," Microsoft said in a post on the Xbox Wire. The first of these, embedded below, was designed and drawn by comic book artist Geof Darrow (Hard Boiled, The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot).

It's meant to show off Tomb Raider's "tense woman-versus-wild nature."

“I wanted to place Lara in absolute danger," Darrow told Xbox. “A pack of wild wolves wasn't enough... so I figured she should fight a giant bear, too. Just when you think it can't get any worse for her, I put her on the edge of a cliff. But she's a superhero, and immortal. Even though Lara is in the most extreme situation imaginable, you know she's going to going to live to tell the tale."

Initially, Darrow had grander and more epic plans for the poster. “I originally had her fighting even more wolves, but pulled it back so that I could bring her character into focus more," he explained.

Autographed copies of the print were available at the Xbox Lounge at Comic-Con on Friday. However, it's unclear if Microsoft will ever make them available again.

The other three Rise of the Tomb Raider posters, the themes for which were not specified, are designed by Frank Kozik, La Boca, and Tara McPherson. However, these have not been revealed just yet.

Rise of the Tomb Raider launches on November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game may later be released for PlayStation consoles, but this has not been confirmed.
