Japanese 3DS launch games confirmed

Eight titles to be released alongside new handheld for its February 26 debut on home soil; game prices to range from 4,800 yen ($57) to 6,090 yen ($73); full Japanese 3DS schedule inside.

North American gamers keen on Nintendo's upcoming 3D-enabled handheld--the 3DS--probably already have January 19 marked in their diaries, with the company planning an all-day event to showcase the new hardware offering. Japanese gamers have already gotten a sneak peek, however, with a three-day public preview event taking place in Tokyo this weekend. During the event's first day, Nintendo took the opportunity to confirm which games will launch with the 3DS when it debuts in Japan on February 26.

While last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo featured an impressive number of upcoming games for the 3DS, only eight will be available in Japan on day one. According to gaming blog Andriasang, Nintendo says the only first-party title to make launch will be Nintendogs + Cats, which will retail for 4800 yen ($57)--the same price in the territory as a standard DS game.

Other launch titles will include Winning Eleven 3DSoccer, Combat of Giant Dinosaur 3D, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Samurai Warriors Chronicle, Puzzle Bobble 3D, Ridge Racer 3D, and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. Some third-party games will cost as much as 6,090 yen ($73).

The 3DS itself will retail for 40 percent more than the DSi in Japan, with launch pricing set at 25,000 yen ($306). While no price for the hardware or software has been released for territories outside of Japan, the handheld is confirmed for release in North America and Europe before April 2011. "Well... Sure I am hyped, but I will just wait for the 3DS-lite for now" LOL that's exactly what i meant! Wait for the 3DS-lite guys...

Nothing good there for me... better wait to the inevitable hardware revision of the 3DS and some good Metroid/Pokemon exclusives.

I'm interested in some of those titles but I'm still undecided on whether to get this early or wait until a hardware revision comes out considering its battery life.

Did I say anything about the psp having 3d compatibilities out of the box? no! Did I say something to the effect that the psp can easily achieve 3d effects? Yes! Big difference. As stated too, the process for Metal Gear Acid 2 (which does come with good goggles in Japan) costs nothing. The 3d actually has a true holographic image - the 3d of effects available to the psp come: 1) Cheaply and 2) True 3d "The 3DS is the only game device that does not require any peripheral device or glasses of any kind to view it's 3d image." I have yet to even suggest that I disagree with that fact.

Did I just miss it or is Kid Iccarus not anywhere on the list for 2011? I was hoping it would be a launch title as the e3 demo blew me away.

And how many of these will come to our half of the world? People, if price cheaper 3DS game = price of DS game in Nippon, then price of cheaper 3DS in Europe/NA =price of DS game in Europe/NA :D Smile! Oh, btw, just to let you know NIntendo, I have sent you a letter regarding my demands of what is to be released here and if not fullfilled, prepare to face my rage. :P

Japan is different, stop getting your trousers up in a bunch guys. The games arnt $65-$75, but it WILL cost more than regular DS games. Also were gonna have a few differences in OUR line-up, for example Ocarina of time wont be finished till OUR Launch date so Japan doesnt get it at Launch.

I would buy it on the release date, but I think I'll wait till there's a 3DS lite, then a 3DSi then a 3DSXL xP Go Nintendo!

@ DanielL5583 Perhaps I was misled by the article sorry, although I have 3 copies of the game :) Ocarina..? Not on the PS3 then? I still got a Wii to play it, I've seen many videos of it and it can only be great.

Hard to say if the 3DS hardware (specifically: directional interface buttons) is up to the task of playing hardcore 2D fighters like SSFIV or BlazBlue. Then again, thousands of people are somehow capable of enjoying SSFIV using stock PS3 and 360 d-pads (ugh) or iPhone controls (lordy...), so it may not be a problem for the mainstream masses to endure a less-than-adequate fighting game control experience on the 3DS.

The sad state of our dollar... I remember when you could knock 2 zeros off Yen and get the US amount. Man its been awhile.

@ersten ICO is a PlayStation exclusive, I'm afraid. The only two I care about at the moment are LoZ: Ocarina of Time, and Star Fox 64 (or as I know it, Lylat Wars).

SFIV to go would be pretty amazing, if it isn't completely stripped.

Guaranteed: The game line-up for other regions will be different. Nintendo has been doing this for too long to give the same game line-up to every region, so calm down kids. Also Guaranteed: The 3DS games will be competitively priced. This is why the editor says that the price of their 3DS games are "the same price in the territory as a standard DS game." So think about what a DS game costs in YOUR territory, and that'll be about the price of YOUR 3DS games. simple.

Folks need to remember, too, that this is the launch line-up for the Japanese market which you can't really expect to appeal to North America since our tastes are different. It wouldn't be surprising to see a different launch line-up for us Westerners.

Doc_Mugger
Doc_Mugger

To everyone freaking out about the price, Japan has a much different economy then we do. Based on past conversions for DS games, I would say the prices are going to range from 30-45 dollars for 3DS games.

If the $70 mark for games is the same in the US people will have a difficult time buying a $300 handheld and games

These titles are pretty sad...the first even remotely interesting title to me (sorry, the street fighter IV have most likely been neutered) is MGS: Snake Eater, and I've already had my fun with that one.

I have not bought a Nintendo product since the 64. This year however I might buy nothing but Nintendo products.

I'll still get one, Street Fighter IV on the go is a big point on its favor, also, something tells me that this system will be in short supply for the foreseeable future since producing those 3D screens in sufficient numbers to meet demand will be difficult. Plus there will be more western developed titles in the launch lineup once it releases in the US and EU. I skipped the PSP and DS generation entirely, so I'm looking forwards to this launch since it is the first time I'm truly excited about a handheld devise like this.

hm right now 3ds is a no no for me not much launch title they whould done what made ps2 boom during their first launch:::ie launching of metal gear solid 2 and ffx for example

Based on the list of 2011 games there seems to be plenty for Japanese gamers but it seems a little limited for us westerners. If you look at the list, the majority of those games will never be released over here. I just hope that EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc, have something in the pipeline too. ooh Dead Space 3D! That'd be awesomeness.

kavadias1981
kavadias1981

@AmnesiaHaze Aye, I agree. It is quite lazy. A brand new Star Fox would be amazing. If you buy a new console then you want new games after all.

kavadias1981
kavadias1981

@antiredcap If you have a PS2 you could always go and buy Snake Eater now. It's only a couple of quid. No need to wait for a year.

It follows the usual cycle of Nintendo release that milks the fans dry. stage 0 - Console Speculation, Nintendo gives up on previous console innovation - Nintendo Fan, "Who cares 3DS is coming soon! NINTENDO RULES!" stage 1 - Console release - Nintendo Fan, "OMG NEW CONSOLE I BELIEVE IN THE 3D HA HA Here's my credit card!" stage 2 - No worthwhile games for the first 6-8 months - Nintendo Fan, "It's cool! NINTENDOG'S is still great and I haven't even bought all of the different types of DOG yet!" stage 3 - Nintendo senses a lull in trading and releases 1 licensed game (metroid, zelda, mario) every 6-8 months (this may include Mario Party or any sports iteration) - Nintendo Fan, "SEE I KNEW IT WAS WORTH IT AWESOME WAHOOOOO" stage 4 - More crap comes out (Dr Kawakajima's Super Sudoku Xtreme Brain Training 3 goes on sale) - Nintendo Fan, "I'm still enjoying zelda! Honest...I don't need anything new..." stage 5 (repeat stage 0) - Nintendo begins speculation on new console (or new version of same console) - Nintendo Fan, "Who cares about that old thing, 3DS XL LITE SP ADVANCE COMES OUT SOON Z0MGZ!!" Think what you like, fan boy or no, we've all been a victim to Mario's lust for your delicious coins.
