Here's what The Last of Us looks like on PS4 in 1080p

Sony releases announcement trailer for new version of Naughty Dog's acclaimed action game featuring a snippet of footage from the game.

Obviously, the video and news story features The Last of Us spoilers.

Sony today released the announcement trailer for The Last of Us Remastered, an updated version of Naughty Dog's 2013 action game that the company officially unveiled yesterday.

The trailer mostly focuses on the fact that The Last of Us for PlayStation 3 took home more than 200 Game of the Year awards, but there is a brief snippet of footage from the game showing protagonists Joel and Ellie overlooking a group of wandering giraffes.

The Last of Us Remastered runs in 1080p and Naughty Dog is aiming for 60fps. The new version of the game is being handled internally at Naughty Dog; it was not shipped out to another outfit.

In addition to updated visuals and DLC, The Last of Us Remastered features director's commentary from Neil Druckmann, as well as input from voice actors Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie). The Last of Us Remastered launches this summer and retailers say it's going to cost $60.

Its his opinion you idiot. Maybe he didnt enjoy the combat in tlou. As for it being the best looking game on last gen. Lol. Sure it looked good for a console. But watch beyond two souls on ps3 or metro last light on xbox 360. In terms of graphics easily beats tlou just so you know. Facepalm

What I'm most curious about:  Will they move the Aim/Shoot buttons to the rear triggers on the PS4?

What I'm most hopeful for:  That they will offer upgrade pricing for those of us who bought the digital PS3 version.

What I'm most excited about:  The ability to play The Last Of Us on my Vita using Remote Play.

This game clearly is going to be awesome thanks to the 1080p of the PS4!  The original TLOU was garbage because, y'know, it wasn't in 1080p.

This looks great and I'm sure for new owners of PS4 that maybe didn't own a PS3, they'll love it. I mean the unanimous GotY last year with arguably the best graphics of the last generation, remastered in 1080p and running on a console with 16 times the amount of RAM. It's a no-brainer it will be a better overall experience than the PS3 version. But like Tomb Raider before it, I don't think it'll be THAT big of a leap that gamers who currently own it will be willing to shell out another $60 (or $70 in Canada) for it.

I'm still waiting for E3 where I hope Sony has a LOT of surprise announcements for brand new PS4 games as the system desperately needs those more than HD remakes of older games.

Gotta say as of right now, I'm much more excited for Nintendo's E3 lineup than I am Sony's or Microsoft's. I lose sleep at night thinking about the Wii U Zelda and potential Metroid or StarFox announcements!

I don't see any difference here..It's better to work on that or I'm not going to buy it... Damn, who I am kidding, I am going to buy whatever they publish because there's no better or more realistic game on the market :)

It will be an easy sell to gamers who are new to PlayStation and own a PS4 but to Those Of Us who already own a PS3 and the game, Most Of Us will be spending our money on new titles and only The Few Of Us will be willing to buy the game again on PS4. Too Many Of Us already own TLOU and have collected everything and have beaten the story more than once. I'll get the PS4 version eventually and add it to my collection only when it drops in price and only when there's just A Few Of Them left!

This trailer really doesn't do the game that much justice on a visual level. For the most part the artistry and story seem solid. Should be enough to compel someone to purchase this game for next-gen. Especially for those of use more worried at that time for paying for our PS4 consoles, then spending money on new releases for PS3. So glad Tomb Raider was re-released for next-gen, thanks Square Enix.

That being said, I hope that Sony and Naughty Dog consider more videos displaying the advantages of this software for the PS4.

So...all  saw was a black screen, just pointing out awards. i didn't see anything worthwhile to make me pick up an HD remake of a game thats not even a year old yet and is already in HD for $60.

Would much rather have the ability to atleast play last gen games on these new consoles. But alas....both companies want to be greedy fucks.

@ciofy i've played both those games and don't think they look as beautiful as the last of us.  They look a bit more realistic, I'll give you that, but they have the combination of beauty and technical graphics that last of us has.  Last light was meant to be on a pc.  It looks damn good for a console port.  Beyond two souls is right up there with last of us but is not better. I think uncharted looks better than last of us though.

@Furwings agree agree, I still would happily take remastered HD versions of old games though, I literally bought PS4 day one , and traded my old PS3, boy was I hasty. I have been longing for the PS3 games that released right after PS4 came out,

    on top of that every delayed  PS4 tittle is an stab in the heart, my goodness.

Scure_NS

No seriously, I expected same effect of realistic hair like on tomb raider d.edition, super realistic skin and photo realistic shirts textures. This looks like ps3 version, I don't think they wanted to show upgraded game here, this is probably just promo trailer..

@HybridExtreme Wrong. There are no new titles coming this summer other than this. So, it'll sell very well. I have the PS3 version and already pre-ordered this one.

@darkwarriorx7  Yes. Something that was developed 10 years ago can't render the Last of Us (one of the most attractive console game) in 1080p.

@delta5931  Yes it's "averaging" a 95/100 on Metacritic based on 98 review scores ;P

@notfrylock1987  Just because, Eddie (the idiot) titled this article as such, does not mean this video was intended to show off any gameplay. In fact it's purpose is as an announcement trailer, hence it's title.

If you use Google Chrome: download AdBlock from Chrome Apps.

I've taken it for granted and totally forgot that the ads would normally be there.

Firefox has a similar app (I think). But Chrome works fantastically!

@BadMrSnake No. Majority of PS3 games are upscale to 1080P. True 1080P wasn't a thing on PS3 or 360.

@Scure_NS  Are you basing this off this trailer? Every texture I see here is as sharp as this video allows it to be (some depth of field to take into account). Ellie's hair is not completely static so it could have some of that tressfx gimmick. All of the giraffes cast shadows and the game's frame rate is doubled (The video may be running at 30fps). There is also a massive improvement regarding shimmering in the background due to the higher resolution and anti-aliasing solution. The PS3 version had some nasty shimmering, especially in the opening scene because of all the contrasting colors on the screen.

I would make a special note that the video adds compression artifacts, is probably capped to 30 fps and most importantly only gives you a couple of seconds to valuate the graphics. It's not a good basis for comparison although you can see a lot of improvements from it.

Except it was...becauses games like

Metal Gear Solid 4

and God of War

and Lair

and Gran Turismo

and Assassins Creed 2

and Bioshock

and MLB the Show and along with every EA sports game

and pretty much every PS3 game that was exclusive to that console and just wasn't a port of a multiplatform title was able to be played at 1080p....it all just depends on what Tv yoiu have and how you set the systems display settings to run with that tv.

@delta5931 @chaazin @jjleshko90

Well I thought, and so did my best mate, that it was pretty much the best game we ever played. I'm mostly a pc gamer too.

I thought it was a great story told well with excellent acting and best gfx of last gen.

Only slight downside is once you complete it and know the story it doesn't have great replay value.

@notfrylock1987 @ExplicitMike @BadMrSnake

Alot of those where 'upsaceled 1080p'. What that means is that instead of the image being out put in a NATIVE 1920x1080 resolution, the native image of most these games was mostly at (or around) 1600x900 [900p].

The developers of most those games then used programing techniques to tell the display commands to render the image at a 1920x1080 'upscale' - meaning they took a 1600x900 image and stretched it out to 1920x1080 dimensions, so it would be displayed at 1080p. That means most PS3 exclusives that say they are running on 1080p on your tv or monitor, may indeed be running at 1080, but it's only a upscaled 1080p (like what XBOX 360 & XBOX ONE does, except its via console upscaler in their case).

That means the image isn't as crisp as a image that is displaying 100% of the pixels of a native 1920x1080 game on - say on PC, or PS4. God of War III may look pretty sharp, but it's not 1080p native, so if it where it'd look alot sharper.

There are native 1080p console games though (not many however): Kingdom Hearts 1.5, FInal Fantasy X/X Remaster, Gran Turismo 5, Lair, God of war Origins, Halo Anniversary, Fable Anniversary, Final Fantasy XIII, Infamous 2, Tale of Vesperia, and both Metal Gear Solid Collection & Zone of the Ender Collection are native 1080p on XBOX 360 (but where downscaled to 720p on PS3 for performance and space issues). Sadily: Metal Gear Solid 4 and BioShock aren't 1080p - one is natively 1400x768, and the other is only native 1320x720; both are simply upscaled automatically to 1080p - and playing Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes on PS4, and BioShock on PC, really emphasises this.
