Here's what MLB 14: The Show looks like on PS4 in 1080p

First trailer for PlayStation 4 version of professional baseball game shows off new stadiums, redone lighting, and new grass animations.

by

Ahead of its release on May 6, Sony today released the first trailer for the PlayStation 4 version of its professional baseball game MLB 14: The Show.

The trailer shows off the game's new stadiums (complete with more detailed crowds), its redone lighting engine, and the eerily accurate grass and facial hair animation system. The PS4 version of MLB 14: The Show runs in 1080p.

MLB 14: The Show is already available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. If you picked up a copy on those platforms, you can carry your progress over to the PS4 version through the game's cross-save functionality.

Sony has not announced an upgrade program for users who already own the PS3 version of MLB 14: The Show and want a copy of the PS4 version, but GameStop is offering a discount for qualified users.

I'm sorry, but when are you going to be looking at their faces? You're going to be looking at their backs when they're running to first!

Look at the facial expressions while running to the base, oh wait there is none. This game sucks!!

Is this in slow motion or is that just the framerate? Yikes.

If you're into beard detail...I guess this is great. It seriously looked like this was the focus of most of the trailer was the facial hair. Whoopie....I guess.

And it still looks like S/h/I/t.

97% cinematic trailer. It all looked alright. I just want a silky smooth experience. I don't care if it's in 480p.

Anyone else wishing for a Ken Griffey Jr. Presents for the 21st century?

Looks amazing. Haven't bought one in a while, but may just pick this one up.

Never played nor cared about games like this one before but this sure looks interesting, would be nice to get a demo first!

Can't wait to get this for PS4, and I'm glad it's a Sony exclusive so no one on other consoles or PC can play it, lo!

Looks pretty interesting. Assuming it has a tutorial (for an "I have absolutely no clue about baseball" level) it might be a nice addition.

I got my PS4 yesterday.  That game is the reason why.

Touting grass animations? I thought EA would be the only company stupid enough to do that.

When I get around to buying a PS4 this will definitely be one of my top games to buy. Looks good and seems to play good.

I will take game play over graphics anyday. This one seems to have both. 1080 is not really a deal breaker.

Yes. 1080p. We get it. I Can't wait for 6-12 months when we stop hearing about 1080p. It's in headlines every single day. We get it. 1080p. Enough already.

@rickphoenixxx

It's slow motion action and slow pans, because one brief shot shows fast action in game action. Hopefully it will be smooth. You cannot tell anything for sure looking at an online video stream. The Assassin's Creed 4 HD launch trailers on Youtube looked crap but the visuals are truly breathtaking on PS4 and it runs really smooth.

@Sam_021  With the way things are going these days, we'll probably get a demo for $10 or so.

@Karlinel confession time: I learned about football by playing a football game that came bundled with my original XBox.

@Triton  It's all about game-play. RBI and Slugfest are still the main Baseball games my Friends and I play.

@trfe It's Gamespot News. Trolling their readers to keep the idiotic and pointless e-peen waving going is what they do.

Not gonna end, a lot of Xbone games are gonna be subHD.

Maybe with the next generation.

That's what I was thinking. More like fifteen years, though. Last baseball game I remember was Triple Play '99 I think?

@dysonlu @sammoth Orry ? Not better than Ryse at 900p nor does it look better than Forza 5. Enjoy your 1080p at a locked 30fps.

Here's and even better example of common sense: Buy a PS4, not an XB1.

@xantufrog @Karlinel  That's how I learned about ice hockey. I've actually learned more about all sports from video games.

Well, for someone who like sports games it could be..in comparison with EA sport games The Show series is much better, and AI actually plays decent without cheats.

New dev kit released for xbox one should fix a lot of the resolution stuff. There are xbox one games in 1080p and a lot of upcoming ones are in 1080p too. 6-9 months from now everything will be 1080p on Xbox one if dev wants it to be.

sammoth

@justerthought @sammoth@dysonlu GT3 was not 1080P and 60fps. It was up-scaled not native and 30fps. FACT. All Racing games are tunnels nimrod.

The rest of your comment is gibberish.

justerthought

@sammoth @dysonlu

Ahh the old Forza 5 linear graphical tunnel that's easy to render trick. PS3 was doing Gran Turismo 3 at 1080p 60fps years ago for the same reason. Anything more complicated and the XB1 has to gimp something. Watch out for all the complex open world games coming in future, because the XB1 will be suffering bad with a performance not much better than 360 open world.

@eelektrik @nl_skipper @SolidSnakeJT @trfe  That has been true for the previous consoles because they contained new, unique hardware that devs had never seen before. However, the new consoles are x86 machines. This means that they are virtually a PC, with no unique, new hardware. So, where consoles would get more and more powerful before because of new hardware to discover, that will not happen now. I guarantee you will see games at 900p on BOTH consoles soon enough. They have been developing on PCs for years and years, and just because you call them PlayStation and Xbox and they come in a flashy case, that doesn't mean they aren't virtually PCs inside. As consoles in the past got better and better, I fear the new consoles will only get worse and worse.

eelektrik
eelektrik

@nl_skipper @SolidSnakeJT @trfe No one said the system will be more powerful. It's that devs will know the hardware better and can develop games for them more efficiently. Happens with every generation of consoles, launch games are rushed and the developers aren't totally familiar with the hardware leading to games that don't look or run as well as they could have if they were made a few years after launch.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@SolidSnakeJT @trfe  I don't get this idea that the systems will be more powerful, even as games get more demanding... and that eventually it'll all be 1080P on both consoles...  that sounds like quite the dream to me. It's more likely we'll see more and more sub-1080p games on both systems as graphics are pushed ever further.

SolidSnakeJT
SolidSnakeJT

@trfe in your dreams. The more demanding the game, the lower the res will be, so maybe they will be able to have 1080p on games that are less demanding but it's gonna stay the same.
