GTA Online now halves money earnt from repeated missions, confirms Rockstar

Less money from repeating missions, but first batch of $500,000 stimulus package to arrive this week.

Rockstar has confirmed that repeating missions in Grand Theft Auto Online will now only pay out half of the usual money.

The change was ushered in as part of the title update released last Friday, although it was not mentioned at the time. Rockstar has since clarified the situation on its support site.

"For those of you inquiring about mission payouts, there was a change that reduces payouts by 50 percent after a repeat of the mission," said Rockstar. "The first time you play and beat the mission, you will get the full amount. Subsequent replays will see a payout amount reduced by half. This is to keep the game balanced as well as encourage the exploration of new missions and content in the game."

"We understand players do like to enjoy a mission multiple times, so rather than remove the possibility of doing so, we've allowed replays of these missions at a reduced payout. Many players can get very good at a mission and beat it much faster in consecutive tries, so we've adjusted these payouts to match that case."

The economy balancing arrives on the same week as the first half of Grand Theft Auto Online's 500,000 GTA$ stimulus package, which was set up by the developer after server issues plagued the game at launch.

"We apologize that there was not full clarity about this in the patch notes," added Rockstar. "Hopefully this note will clear things up. If there are any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask."

Rockstar also added that it having an ongoing discussion about being able to replay NPC missions in Grand Theft Auto Online.

Think we've seen everything gtao has to offer. Will probably try heists with a few friends but that's it. New consoles will be here soon

It should cut in half of the half each time you replay a mission. Ex: first play = $100, second play = $50, third play = $25 and so on. But now they are only hurting those just starting online since everyone who has played it has already maxed out their bank.

did anyone ever notice rock star having a stab at cod charging ppl for map packs in gta 5 with the shooter game jimmy always plays? makes me laugh how they go and do the exact the same thing as the games that they take the pi ss out of so in reality there taking the piss out of themselves.

"This is to keep the game balanced as well as encourage the exploration of new missions and content in the game."

Alright, but what about the people who got really good at races and can just keep winning those over and over for the same large payout each time? I get that R* wants people to experience everything they have worked to put in the game, but let's not pretend like  there's this vast multitude of things to do. You have 'Story' missions (those given by Martin, Lester, etc.), races, deathmatch, survival, those other missions (i.e. Top Fun), and the rest is pretty much stuff already experienced in single player (i.e. Movies, Tennis, Golf). I prefer to make money through the missions given by NPCs. I don't feel that I should be punished for this. Now I feel like if I want to make money, I have to go do something I don't particularly enjoy.

after checking my stats i see Ive been charged 857k in medical bills, ive only made 3.5 million in total, they cut the mission pay in half, its blatantly obvious scam star are trying to push players towards buying there cash cards, and for such a great game, they are making it really hard for us to enjoy it, i myself find myself getting bored already as the constant nerfing is making the incentive of reward less appealing and with ps4 arriving, im afraid to say in my personal opinion i think this gamer will decline, the death matches are weak, so are the survival modes, the free roam is great but your lose money if your killed and risk been in a bad sport server, for having fun killing and blowing up other players, the missions are good but now the pay is crap ppl are just repeating short races to make money, to me thats just a grind fest and by the time they actually release the heists, ppl will of maxed out the rewards and making money will no longer be an incentive, and the whole point of gtao will no longer be relevant, not to mention the horrendous launch, why release a game that isn't even properly finshed?

"We understand players do like to enjoy a mission multiple times, so rather than remove the possibility of doing so, we've allowed replays of these missions at a reduced payout."

Then what about just not touching it at all? Cut the BS Rockstar; you want to press people to pay real money for ingame money. That is the only reason.

Well, guess what? The only thing you are encouraging is for people to use some of the multiple money glitches still ingame. I'm seeing a lot of  guys doing them since Friday.

Funny, before MP came out everybody was raving on about how great this game was and that MP would be just a added bonus, Now everybody is bashing the game because online isn't what they thought it would be. lol. I love watching the spoilt generation cry over spilt milk.

Don't feed me dumb lines about 'encouraging' us to try other missions. If we want to see it, we will; forcing us is unethical. It's too damn artificial and the fun dies just as quick as 'leveling too fast'. I'd rather get to the finish line and wait for new content (which we were led on to believe would come frequently) than drag my belly through the mud and never see the finish line at all.

Instead of halving the reward, which is really a stupid way of trying to get people to try other missions, how about. . again. . adding more content more frequently. For starters, how about you add more 6 player missions? How about an 8 player mission? How about some damn heists?

It's not fair.

I like to play with 6+ friends at a time and we seem to be getting punished the most. First we couldn't replay the rare six player missions and now our rewards are cut in half so either we play the smaller missions or we endure less reward?

I find it funny how most of the people posting in these comments have concluded that this is some grand revenge scheme put together by Rockstar Games to stick it to their fans for not buying "GTA$" with real money.

As it states in the article above, the reason for splitting the reward for a replayed mission is simple: to encourage exploration and promote new missions."  This might seem like some sly trick to some of you, but in reality I find it to be quite honest.  I am one of one of the many GTA V fans and online players that's been here since October 1st when it launched.  All the bugs, hiccups, money glitches, mission glitches, Mod Shop glitches, garage glitches have been dealt with by everyone.  Rockstar told us in the beginning that there would be "growing pains" while GTA Online was being released.  This comment not only pertains to the more apparent bugs, but the smaller ones like players replaying missions 100+ times in order to gain large amounts of money very quickly.  Now, not only can you not replay missions from the debrief screen, you only get paid half for doing it!  I can't tell you how happy it makes me as a gamer to see a studio taking active steps to balance, promote and better their game all within the same month that GTA Online was released.

I'm sure everyone who I've heard over the past three weeks pissing and moaning about how "terrible" GTA Online is holds Rockstar to the same high standard as I do.  But lets not get lost in this growing market of singleplayer/multiplayer-fusion games.  Rockstar has never once tried to implement multiplayer into a Grand Theft Auto title (exhibit A).  They told us from the beginning there were going to be bugs [growing pains as they put it] from the start (exhibit B). And to top it all off, they are fixing them on almost a weekly basis whilst throwing free money at all of us who have played their game from the beginning.

I encourage everyone who's got a head full of red hot rage over something so new, exciting and premature to take a step back and appreciate what they've built thus far and where they're going with it.  Rockstar doesn't need your real money for fake in-game money, lest I remind you they made billions within the first week in September.  They want to keep their customer base happy; if you want to leave so be it.  That just means the servers will have a better player-base and less teary-eyed twelve year olds not looking for a comprehensive game experience.

Sincerely,

Daniel Escobar

I mean I like R* but the GTA online experience feels like someone told them "Hey you can make alot of money post release from online play if you put in timed gates and microtransaction"

Honestly how about you patch the ridiculous prices of items

Rockstar can make a good game, just not a good online game. Why only tennis and golf? Where is basketball, weight lifting, and volleyball just to name a few? Why are there no customization options for your house? colors, furniture, or even where things are placed in the houses would be nice, anything so everyone's houses don't look the exact same. Why not have a weekly lottery where you buy tickets at the liquor store for a chance to win? Where are the casino's or horse races to bet on? GTA V was worth the wait but GTA online was not.

@Warlord_Irochi

Not really, using the lower payouts as an excuse for cheating won't fly with R*, I'd say enjoy the cheater pool to anyone stupid/greedy enough to do that. It's also incredibly childish.

And not touching it at all would mean people farm the high paying missions over and over. Which is not only boring, it isn't how the game was intended to be played either.

Not doing anything would have also create massive income disparity between players as the lower ranks can't access said missions; which would lead to more self-entitled crying than there is already.

If you want to moan about something, moan at the early adopters who farmed the hell out of said missions, resulting in all of us being squeezed.

@AncientDozer I do agree they should add a lot more 6-8 player missions. Let's not forget GTAO only launched a few weeks ago, and the first couple weeks had a few major problems... I think they'll deliver on the content, but it's a bit soon to expect much more.

Not sure what level you are, but at rank 80 I've noticed the missions became much larger in scale and execution.

AncientDozer
AncientDozer

@Daniel_Escobar

Fair point but I must disagree. The alleged view of Rockstar is very naive and fails to account for the lack of mission diversity.

They simply do not have enough missions and mission variety to justify this act. It's punishing people for not playing ROCKSTAR'S way, though perhaps not their actual intention.

For instance, my group likes to play with SIX people. Six player missions are rare and up until the point they banned replaying it was the only way to enjoy the game for us. Now we get diminished rewards for the few six player missions they even had?

Either we bite the bullet and go our separate ways or we endure reduced returns?

And what is wrong with people playing the same mission over and over? Why should they care how we get money? It's not a real MMO and not everyone is doing this to be competitive.

@zackavelli @deadpen Yea I did, did you? Since you are not smart enough to understand simple math nor English I'm going to take the time to school you. "Subsequent" do you know what this means? I'll wait for you to google it..... It basically means to redo or repeat, and by rockstar's comment they say that if you get $100 for a mission then repeat that mission you will get $50 and if you decide to repeat the same mission for a third time you will get $50 (forgetting about the quicker mission completed time payout). SO how is that the same as my comment? My fucking example even lays out what the fuck I was saying so slow shits like you would keep one hand in your pants and the other on the scroll button. If you half a whole you get 1/2  if you half that you get 1/4 and half of that is...... nope you are wrong it is 1/8. I will not go on for you, if you want to know more go back and get your ged if you haven't finished high school yet then I pray to what ever there is out there that your mommy puts the money she could spend on this game back in an account to buy herself something nice on the day your 10 year reunion would have been on. @ssdd_again @Warlord_Irochi"And not touching it at all would mean people farm the high paying missions over and over. Which is not only boring, it isn't how the game was intended to be played either."

If people want to repeat missions over and over, they shouldn't be forced out of it because others think it's boring. It was irresponsible to make this out to be such an open-ended game if we are later going to be told how to enjoy it. I was under the impression that the game was intended to be played however each individual wanted to experience it.

"Not doing anything would have also create massive income disparity between players as the lower ranks can't access said missions; which would lead to more self-entitled crying than there is already."

This is kind of true but mostly not. While the lower ranked individuals cannot host the missions unlocked later on, they can still participate if they are invited to one. This is what some crews were doing to help each other out. The lower ranks benefited from the money, while the higher ranks benefited from the RP gained by completing missions with crew members.

"If you want to moan about something, moan at the early adopters who farmed the hell out of said missions, resulting in all of us being squeezed."

They were just grinding through in a way that the game allowed. It's not like they were glitching. There was an option to repeat the mission, so they did it.

@ssdd_again @Warlord_Irochi  You keep pointing the blame at people who repeated missions over and over. If the aim in the game is to make money, and certain missions were going to yield just that, why would people not do it. To be clear, I am specifically talking about after they made it so that you couldn't just hit 'replay' and do it again. After that, you could still call the same mission giver for a chance that the same mission would be available. This was not a glitch. It yielded the desired result. How is it the gamer's fault that R* reduced payouts? They had no way of knowing. It's not like R* came out before the game released and said, "Participate in everything the game has to offer or suffer consequences." In fact, the opposite was more true. There is a trophy/achievement  for "Participat[ing] in everything Los Santos has to offer." What this says to me is people are allowed to play however they choose, but if they spread their efforts, they will get some bragging rights. The money glitches were a dishonest way of making money, but I would never fault a gamer for taking advantage of the honest things the game had to offer.

"If people want to repeat missions over and over, they shouldn't be forced out of it because others think it's boring "

Misunderstood much?.

I didn't say they're forcing people out of anything, they've just reduced the payout for subsequent replays.

Which is also stated in the main article. If you feel 'forced out' then that says a lot about how you play doesn't it. Most of the people crying about all this just want everything and they want it now, in exchange for no effort. The game clearly wasn't designed to be finished in two weeks. I'm as annoyed as anyone else that I didn't make as much easy money when I could ; but I'm not going to start yelling 'conspiracy' anytime soon.

I know only the host needs access to the higher missions, but that doesn't mean all lower ranked players are going to get regular access to those missions.

It's about keeping as fair as possible (in general).

Obviously there will always be players with silly money in theses types of games ;  it's not Rockstars fault some players have 20 hours a day free to sink into the game.

All they can do is try and level the playing field for those of us that don't have that amount of time (or want to), so that in future there will only be a small amount of players with big money (call them the ones that got away) and the rest of us will just have to limp on and get there eventually or leave.
