GTA 5 PC petition passes 700,000 signatures, game is now taking longer than GTA 4 to hit PC

Petition calling on Rockstar Games to release PC version of open-world game crosses new milestone; it's now been 224 days since GTA V originally came to consoles.

The Change.org petition calling on Rockstar Games to release a PC version of its critically and commercial successful open-world game, Grand Theft Auto V, has surpassed 700,000 signatures. It has gathered more than 709,000 signatures to date. Just last week, the GTA V PC petition surpassed 690,000 signatures, up from 650,000 earlier this year.

2008's Grand Theft Auto IV launched in April for consoles before coming to PC in December of that year. If GTA V is indeed coming to PC as the rumors say, it's taking long to do so than its predecessor. GTA IV was released for PC 217 days after the console version arrived. By comparison, it's now been 224 days since GTA V originally launched for consoles.

The game is widely expected to come to PC sometime in 2014. In October, multiple Eurogamer sources said GTA V would be released for PC in early 2014, while a representative for Chip maker Intel has said that GTA V is not expected to be a console-exclusive for much longer.

GTA V was released in September 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In addition to a positive critical reception, the open-world game generated $800 million in 24 hours and more than $1 billion in three days. It has since shipped 32.5 million copies.

Rockstar Games cofounder Dan Houser said in November 2012 that a PC version of the open-world game is "up for consideration," though that's all the company has said on the matter. Another high-profile Rockstar Games title, 2010's Red Dead Redemption, never came to PC.

The petition says it is a "big shame" that GTAV is not announced for the PC, specifically calling out the modding community being a "huge part" of PC gaming. "Modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have," a line from the petition reads.

If GTAV does come to PC, it may not be the only new platform for the game. Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian contends that the game will be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014.

Though we've yet to hear about a PC version of GTA V, that doesn't mean Rockstar is sitting by idly twiddling its thumbs. The studio continues to support GTA V's online mode, GTA Online, with numerous and substantial content updates. On top of that, the game's first story mode DLC is scheduled to launch in 2014, though Rockstar hasn't said anything about it yet.

how about before a pirate version.... I mean PC version, we have online fully implemented? How long has this been out and we still do not have the main selling points, heists?

I mean we got two in the campaign and we were told this would of been fixed by now :/

I think the hype about GTA V has died out and that people just don`t care if it comes or doesn`t come to PC. I mean, sure I would be happy if it came but y`know, I`m perfectly fine with it never coming as well.

I expect a PC announcement with PS4 and XB1 ports.

To everyone who wants a PC version of GTAV:

gaben@valvesoftware.com

Seriously, nobody's paying Rockstar to port it, and i can name 2 reasons or Valve to make such a transaction:

1. SteamOS needs launch titles

2. At this point, it's safe to assume that Valve are getting out of their way to delay Half-Life 3. We want GTAV on PC, and Valve wants to delay HL3, so it's a win-win for PC gaming, right?

GTA V 1.14 preview is out already , not even a mention of any PC offering, lets face it R* can't even be bothered to even say anything about the PC version, they are just looking at the easiest way to a profit.

I really would have thought they'd have said something now, if they were planing to release the game on PC.

There is a chance they might have waited for Watch Dogs, and a couple of weeks after the hype has died down announce it--- but for some reason I doubt that will happen.

I just would have expected them to say something, this silence seems to sound a lot lik Red Dead until ages later they finally admitted it's not happening. "Let them down only when the hype for the game has fallen."

It just seems like they have decided, or been payed, to make this the perfect last gen console send-off title. Indeed, it gives people a very good reason indeed to still hold on to and buy last gen consoles; AS WELL as next gen machines.

PC is the king of gaming I can play all PC, and emulate all consoles but the xbox (all 3) and the ps3 and ps4 and as time goes on I will be able to emulate those so there really is no PC vs anything war PC wins by default ;)

PC Gamers GTA V will coming to PC R* just upgrading GTA V Grahpics since GTA V graphic on PS3, Xbox 360 platform looks like sh**...upgrading the graphics does takes time...it will probably takes atleast 1 year or more...soo be patience...

Bryjoered07
Bryjoered07

Yes, as bad as this sounds, if this game were released on PC it would be pirated many more times than it is sold. R* should care about how many it would sell, which would be in the millions, if millions of sales is not enough incentive to put out a PC port I don't know what is. I stopped playing it on console in anticipation of a PC release.

joe_l
joe_l

It looks like R* have let PC gamers down, even if they release it know we'll have missed months of gameplay while we see tons of videos and updates from the console players.

Watch Dogs is finally out, I will be ordering mine today - and will not be buying GTA V.

GTA V is never coming to the PC.  Just move on people.

Even if it eventually came out in 2015 or 2016 (not going to happen tho'), I for one am totally over it now and have no plans to ever buy it, except maybe on a Steam $1 sale.

To those who say R* is ignoring the PC gamers who made the company:

R* (and every other game company) is about $money.  Console-kiddies is where the $money is right now.  Game companies don't care about PC gamers at all.  Get over it.

To those who say that PC gamers are all pirates, grow up, you are totally wrong.  Tell that to Steam.

ok I'm TIRED of the PC/Connedsouls arguement:

PC = More popular, more diverse, more software and more support.

Console = More problems, More money, More proprietary and more pointless.

With a magic Cuntch you get nothing more but games, and general things; with a PC you can expand, add, double-no-TRIPPLE yo vids, control house, build house soo.... moar software; more success!

PC DOES! *You can't do that on a Console*

I think we need a petition going to force the British government to step in, would be ideal as general election is around the corner and growing UKIP support from the general public would mean the Tories are desperate for votes! if we could sign a petition demanding they step in and force rockstar to release GTA v on PC as rockstar is a British based company! I would vote tory if they used their political muster to force release of this game on PC, failing that we have that nut case Alex Salmond who is fighting for Scottish independence surely with a million supporters behind him he would be more than welcome to step in and force rockstars hand! as I believe they were originally based solely in scotland

freka_man
freka_man

SO If RockStar wants to see how the sales will go how about the Start A PREORDER and make the reach point the same as console before they start the RELEASE!!

ALSO I personally don't give a damn about GTA V since I did my playthrough through YOUTUBE!! xD

MORE IMPORTANTLY WATCH DOGS comes out in 6 DAYS happy days also Dragon Age Inquisition HELL YA plus WITCHER 3 I could not be happier to see THOSE games to come OUT SOONER!!

luridftw32
luridftw32

To say GTA 5 will not come out on PC Simply because Red Dead Redemption didn't is pretty idiotic on your part.

GTA has been around for a decade almost 2 and has accumulated more fame and more players than Red Dead has. More Players = More Money. More Money = Higher Chance of seeing it on PC.

GregoryBastards

Dont worry it will come out on PCs eventually.... just like red dead redemption did......

Rockstar are basically a**holes, forgetting who helped bring them to where they are today. Without PC gamers, they wouldn't be so big as they are now, where they are in a position to basically sh*t on the people who helped bring them there. Yeah, thanks a lot, Rockstar, I've given you a lot of my money, I've owned every single GTA game out there, some of them I've bought several copies of (for both the PC and the PS2).

thatonepcgamer
thatonepcgamer

Why say that the PC Community pirates! Every comment I've seen for this post has that reason for pc gamers not being able to play the game when really both sides pirate just as much. I have a modded xbox to play console exclusives while buy games on pc since I won't have to worry about having my disc tray break on me or rrod or ylod!

Printul_Noptii

Rockstar why do you hate money so much ? Release it on the PC already, this is a solid game and there is big interest for this game in the PC community so why lock us out for so long ? Look at Konami even they opened up to the PC community and release Lords of Shadow 1-2 and even Metal Gear Revengeance with great success on steam so why not fall in line as well having in mind GTA 1-4 were all released on the PC :/ or do you hold up with it till E3 ? If thats the case fine but just make a statement already I meant wtf !!

I was going to get a pc version but I'm already completely disinterested now. I'll just wait till a new GTA hits the PS4 now...

All the begging from PC gamers won't do any good for the reputation of our fan base. It's very clear what Rockstar think about us and their game's direction. GTA V is looking increasingly like a console exclusive at this point and I don't blame Rockstar for such a decision. The game was a success on the 360 and PS3. Some PC gamers will continue to rant and bitch about how the consoles have poor FPS or lack of mods. As a PC gamer, I only look for something as simple as availability and accessibility. For eg: if a game is released, I look for PC version If I find it, I go with the PC platform. If I don't find a PC option, I go with PS3/360. Sure, the PC versions are always expected to run top notch with better fps and resolutions. BUT, let's not forget the pathetic and POOR porting Rockstar are known for. GTA 4 was a disaster when it came out for the PC, In fact, many PC games are nothing more than cheap ports. The last and only true PC game of all time was Half Life 2; the game ran like a dream on every PC configuration. What an irony considering HL3 could never be released. So I really don't see the point in all these petitions when PC gaming has always gotten a raw deal from devs. Oh wait. CD Projekt would also be up there on my list of dedicated PC devs who devote so much towards the PC version of the Witcher. Hopefully, Rockstar can come out and say something at least instead of being quiet.

Well, thing is, when you show a community that they're second class citizens to your business, you couldn't expect them to actually BUY the game at your MSRP of $60 if/when it comes out right?  I mean, I simply don't do business that way. If you've showed me I'm a passing thought to your company's interests, that's fine, but you wouldn't be getting anywhere near MSRP out of me if the game drops. For the amount of time it has taken, I might bite if it was $30. It's not like I only do this to Rockstar. Ubi is known for releasing lots of games on console first, and when they do come to PC (usually as a very bad port), I don't spend $60 on them. It's more in the range of $20-30.

@jeremywm

If you can't emulate the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox one, PS3 or PS4 then you can't emulate all consoles can you.

Oh wait you can just all of the old, boring or insignificant ones (lets face it going back past ps2 leads to a smile 10 mins of nostalgia and then total boredom).

Point being I have never been unable to play a console game because I dont have the right configuration ect and unless the game itself is broken by design consoles run smoothly with less hiccups and issues.

Just saying (and yes I know pc graphics are better but tbh next gen is at the point that I really dont care how much better somethin could look because it still looks awesome) :)

Bryjoered07
Bryjoered07

@joe_l  They could release it a year from now and I would still buy it. GTAV with next gen graphics at 60 frames per second and mods to vary gameplay sounds like the greatest thing ever.

spazonymous

@mrdrgreen The sad and pathetic thing about all this is that R* can't even release the game on the very platform used to make GTA. All the 3d models and content, how do you think all that was made? Not on consoles that's for sure. It was made on PC. They should release the game on PC.

logoster

@luridftw32  not only that, but the gta series is made by rockstar north, red dead is by rockstar san diego

@colbster You gonna sit there and tell me console pirates wouldn't easily outnumber PC pirates if it were as easy to pirate a game for console?

WolfgarTheQuiet

@starjay009  I have funny feeling GTA will be PS exclusive same as back in PS2 days. PS4 just reminds me so much of PS2. I have been PC and PlayStation gamer since 1998

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@aegis_kleais  That basis makes no sense... if the game is new to you... it's new to you, and probably earns it's entire asking price.  Also Ubisoft are known for great PC ports in general, especially recently, they actually try and fill them with as many PC exclusive features as they can (where graphics are concerned) and always have keyboard AND controller support and aren't bad when it comes to patches either...  The couple games R* released since GTA4 have been MUCH better on PC as well,  they seem to have learned from GTAIV.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@07wintert  I just want some AA and a better framerate... those two things would go a LONG way to make the game more fun and look a LOT better.  Also mods, GTA has traditionally had a solid following of modders!

@neverconsole  You sir are so backwards I find it funny in a good way. Most people just pirate PC games. You're a new breed.

flashn00b

@metallinatus @flashn00b Actually, Valve doesn't want that kind of exclusivity, so if they were to buy a port, they'll buy both the PC and Linux versions.

@Bryjoered07 Agreed, time to build a bigger better PC :)

luridftw32
luridftw32

They just like to think of themselves as better. When it is quite the contrary.

PackTop, Yes PC probably has more, The only reason being it is easier to do. Also you guys automatically think a Pirate would never buy the game. A lot of people do it to try the game first before buying it. Also, Pirating a game offers no Support. Meaning you will have to manually keep yourself up to date, and deal with Bugs that the buyers don't have to.

packtop
packtop

@thatonepcgamer @colbster

Bravo, bringing 2-3 consoles pirates link and now you say pirates on consoles is a big as pirates on PC...

If that was true, GTAV never would have made 1 billions profit in 3 days and sold like 29 millions copies.

Seriously get your fact right...

WolfgarTheQuiet

@thatonepcgamer @colbster  They are of course, but its unmatched by level of piracy on PC, we cant argue that at all.

toshineon

@fosforus @neverconsole  Nah. I don't know how it is nowadays, but in the PS2 days, modded PS2's were really common. I know a few people that has modded Xbox 360's, so it's not that uncommon.

neverconsole

@fosforus @neverconsole  xD well i just like playing games on high end PC with much better graphics and no fps drops like on consoles... +its so dumb playing shooters on joystick...

RhoDaZZ
RhoDaZZ

@packtop Nah, get yours right. While console pirating is somewhat more niche, sure, you don't look at all the facts, but merely what is most pirated. Please compare direct developer revunue on Xbox vs. on Steam please. Please also look how well good games with good support sell. Of course pieces of crap with tons of DRM get pirated, there's no incentive to buy the game or support the people making it, rather a message directly saying fuck you dear customers we don't like you and don't take any complaints seriously kthxbai.

Also please my dear do have a look at this list:

http://majornelson.com/2013/01/22/top-games-of-2012/

Even though GTAIV ran on that anti-gamer software called GWL, it still managed to be the most popular and most sold title on there. With a steam release not only should it be more popular because of the lessened burden on the consumer, but also more since digital distribution has grown a lot since then.

Think GTAV gets released on PC. Let's humour your claims and say maybe 50 million pirate it and maybe 5 million buy it? They still make bucket-loads of money. And not only that, by releasing any title on an configurable platform like the PC means you can keep the community alive for years to come by having mods being created. A vibrant community means exposure. Exposure means more publicity. More publicity means bigger sales next time.

And with that said, your notion of PC piracy is completely outdated and correlates to the situation maybe 5 years ago. Today PC developers and distributors actively push for buyer's perks and to treat the paying customers like they appreciate their shared love for the games. Thing such as:

Auto-updates,beta-patches and old versions

A streamlined multiplayer experience that is fitted to your needs

Cloud saving

Massive periodic sales on primary titles, DLC and combo packages

jonas72
jonas72

@WolfgarTheQuiet Of course not, it is easier to be a pirate on PC, because the PC is a more versatile machine than your average console. But here's another thing you can't argue with (though I'm sure quite a lot of console owners will): if it was just as easy to download illegal copies of games on a console, then the console pirates would easily outnumber the PC pirates many times over.

WolfgarTheQuiet
WolfgarTheQuiet

@toshineon @rayankawash @Printul_Noptii  Both pirate but PC level of piracy is way to high, because its so damn easy to do it, we cant argue that at all. R is starting work on next GTA i think, they wont waste time. They dont hate money, they  made more then enough on console game sales.
