GameStop Raising Money for Childhood Cancer Research and Treatment

Video game retailer GameStop has announced a new charity drive where it will raise money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. From May 27 until June 30, people who shop at GameStop and subsidiary ThinkGeek will have the opportunity to donate to St. Jude, which raises money for childhood cancer awareness, at the point-of-purchase in-store and online.

This is the fourth consecutive year that GameStop has partnered with St. Jude for a charity campaign.

"As a company we believe in the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and our associates and guests are very passionate about giving for the kids who are fighting big battles with cancer," GameStop VP Matt Hodges said in a statement.

Everyone who donates $1 or more will receive triple PowerUp Rewards points on their donation amount. Additionally, ThinkGeek will sell a limited-edition t-shirt that will benefit St. Jude, while GameStop's mobile division, Kongregate, and the Game Informer magazine will run an awareness campaign called "Give for the Kids of St. Jude."

In January, GameStop announced that it raised $2.8 million for St. Jude. In all, GameStop has raised more than $4.3 million for St. Jude over the years.

"These funds ensure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food--because all a family should worry about is helping their child live," GameStop said in a statement.

GameStop also supports charities like Ronald McDonald Houses and Make-A-Wish, which it donated $1.2 million to in 2015 as part of its latest campaign. More recently, GameStop raised $1.2 million in April 2016 as part of its first-ever Autism Awareness Month campaign.
