Tecmo has today announced that Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly has gone gold and will arrive in North American stores on December 9. The survival horror sequel follows the story of twin sisters Mio and Mayu, who become trapped in an abandoned village and must contend with spirits, ghosts, and ghouls by using an enhanced version of the camera-combat system that was featured in the original game.
"The first Fatal Frame terrified players in a way never seen before," said Anthony Tarpey, marketing manager at Tecmo. "There is always something to be said about the mind's power to create an uneasy nervousness or a sense of something that just isnt right. This time around, with Crimson Butterfly, our development team explored deeper into these dark regions of the mind where those unsettling thoughts lay. I recall our recent press event where we invited editors to play-test the game. In a lit room full of grown men, we all watched nervously and kept jumping out of our seats while an editor was playing the game. That's how scary this game really is."
