Disney canceled 2013 Iron Man game - Report

Sources say company's gaming unit halted production on unannounced game that was scheduled to launch this year.

by

Earlier this year, Disney Interactive canceled an unannounced Iron Man game scheduled to be released this year, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal.

No further information about this game was provided. Its reported cancellation came during a time when Disney Interactive supposedly sunk $100 million into producing Disney Infinity.

The latest Iron Man-focused game was Gameloft's endless runner Iron Man 3: The Official Game, based on May's blockbuster film.

Iron Man also appeared in June's free-to-play online game Marvel Heroes and will be featured in Traveller's Tales' upcoming game Lego: Marvel Super Heroes, due for release later this year.

I hope they create a Marvel superheroes adventure game. And looking forward for Marvel vs. Capcom 4, hopefully. ;D

I am now officially worried that I'm not going to get a sequel to Captain America: Super Soldier when Winter Soldier comes out...

Well, at least this time they managed to cancel it and not release another steaming pile of movie adaptation, but I can't for the life of me understand why they can't make a fun game about something like Ironman.

If you're given a license about a guy with a super armor that can fly, shoot lasers and have super strength, and you still make a bad game, you should probably cease existing...

Same with other superheroes and adaptations (not counting the few good exceptions)

Is anyone else really fucking sick of Marvel?

They aren't so dumb after all. Well, not completely brain-dead at least.

This was a good thing. the two previous games based on the two movies were disasters any way.

would of been a flop. i would be good to see more superhero games based around arkham city. the amazing spider man wasnt to bad but got boring quick.

Probably would have been ass anyway. So that was a good business decision. Something Disney doesn't always do when it comes to the games they back...

Considering Iron Man 2 was the worst 2012.... good call.  Keep this trend up with cancelling bad ideas.  Then stop cancelling the good ones like Armada of the Damned....

Games that are movie tie in's should probably stick to the mobile market only. Then it's not too hard to make a decent game and it doesnt cost too much to try out. I'd love a Marvel game that is to the same caliber of Batman, though I'd like another DC game to that degree as well.

I think it was a wise decision. If we look at the track record of Iron Man games, they were all crappy with horrible graphics. Of course, graphics isn't everything in a game, but when you're an iconic superhero being handled by one of the biggest companies in the world, you expect the quality of the game to be top notch, not something like a hobbyist would make.

Hell, even that Iron Man script mod for GTA IV is way more fun than the Iron Man game I played where you shot exploding barrels in a crappy desert.

It was probably going to be shit anyway so who cares.

So to recap:

They HAVE released a crappy iron man 3 movie tie in game already but this game that was cancelled was another iron man game that hadn't been finished yet.

That sounds to me like it was either REALLY bad or the developers didn't want it to be crappy so they took their time with it. Disney probably cancelled it because it's not needed to promote the movie anymore.

We might actually be missing out on a potentially good iron-man game here, as opposed to the usual slap-a-brand-on-and-advertise-a-movie junk.

Yes it probably was bad but I would have liked to see it in action first.

Good plan, Disney. Iron Man 3 was crap, so a game based on it would have been even worse.

While there's very, very, VERY few exceptions to the old rule of 'movie-based videogames always suck' (X-Men Origins : WOLVERINE being the one exception that comes to mind.....and MAYBE 'The Amazing Spider-Man'), I have to admit I'm a huge and lifelong Iron Man fan. Yes, I'm even going to torture myself with playing Iron Man 2 despite the fact I know how terrible it supposedly is beforehand. So, it is with great shame I admit that I'm disappointed to hear this. Never can get enough of 'ol Shell Head.....  LOL

Video games to movie or movie to video games SUCK. It's the simple truth. #Dealwithit

That's too bad that they cancelled it. I heard that the final boss battle was a going to be a beer drinking contest with the Mandarin.

I think Marvel/Disney should find some one that can  make Marvel games. Just like EA have the Star Wars license. I would love to see Activision get the Marvel license because they make some good Marvel games in the past like Spider-Man, MUA and X-Men

Probably a smart move considering the other iron Man movie tie in games sucked....

Considering how fast the first two movie tie in games went to the bargain bin I'm suprised they even considered this at all.

Did anyone want the last Iron Man game anyway?  That one guy who cares about this is home alone crying & playing a Spider-Man game instead.

Im sure the Iron Man mod for GTAIV was much better and Disney found out about it just now, and was like "OMG! that's just too awesome for our crap! quick cancel all our Iron Man games they are not going to sell with this mod around."

Megavideogamer
Megavideogamer

Iron man can't catch a break. So no Iron Man 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Maybe Disney did us a favor? Iron man has yet to have a decent videogame.

Good call, last two Iron Man games were terrible.  Movie license games should just remain from now on a free disposable phone apps.

Man I would love to play a good Iron Man game. If done right it would be epic. But alas almost all movie license games suck. The previous two Iron Man games sucked big. If only Rockstar would find it in their hearts to do an Iron Man game. I would preorder it now:D

@ThrashMatt26 - I'm actually more into Marvel right now than I have been in a while, thanks to Marvel Heroes. Which is actually not completely horrible anymore.

But after recently playing the first Iron Man game on PS3, I have to say that this is probably a good thing.

BARC_Trooper

@ThrashMatt26 I don't know. I know I was feeling a little nauseous with too much Capcom. But I am just fine with Marvel.

@MysteryJ0ker I was really hoping to see Star Wars Battlefront III. Like all promising games in the past though, it got cancelled.

@DETfaninATL I just looked back on Xmen origins: wolverine and the game is the only redeeming quality I could think of, that is kind of sad.

@AgentRaven77Activision had the marvel license and we've seen what they've done. With a few exceptions, they have never made a decent game and they don't care to because they know what the projected sales are going to be just from releasing a Marvel brand name. What we need is a game company that actually wants to make a good game w the Marvel license rather than just appeal to the lowest common denominator. Activision's' most recent effort was Deadpool. "Nuff said.

AgentRaven77
AgentRaven77

@toecutter00 @AgentRaven77 I think Marvel can come up with an game division since Disney have the money to do it or Marvel should find a company to make Marvel games. ERA have the Star Wars right but I think Capcom should get the Marvel right
