Call of Duty: Elite beta now drafting PS3 users

Activision now inviting PSN users to testing phase of military shooter franchise's social and stat-tracking platform.

It has been more than two months since Activision first began inviting Xbox 360 owners to test its newest social and stat-tracking platform, Call of Duty: Elite. But with Modern Warfare 3's November 8 launch date quickly approaching, it's better late than never for PlayStation 3 owners.

PSN users may not be the vanguard of Call of Duty: Elite testers, but they'll at least be boots on the ground.

Today, Activision confirmed that the Call of Duty: Elite beta-testing phase for the PS3 has begun. Activision will be sending beta-test invites to those who registered to participate in the testing period in waves, with the first batch going out today. Gamers will be able to access the beta through a copy of last year's megahit, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The Call of Duty: Elite beta tests a number of features that will be included in the Beachhead Studio-developed service, including stat tracking, custom player groups, competitive events, and video sharing.

Elite will officially launch alongside Modern Warfare 3 on November 8. The service will have free features and a premium component that is priced at $50 a year and comes included with the $100 Hardened edition of the game. Those who subscribe to Elite will gain access to all 20 pieces of downloadable content that will be released for the game--a $60 value.

That's not all, though, as premium Elite members will also be able to participate in competitions for prizes of both the real and virtual sort. Paid members can also level up clans and receive eight times more video-capture capacity. They'll also receive video content including strategy and analysis from some of the best competitive players in the world, as well as Elite TV episodic content from talent like Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and directors Ridley and Tony Scott.

Those who have yet to register for the Call of Duty: Elite beta test can still do so through the official Call of Duty website. Check out GameSpot's impressions of Call of Duty: Elite for more information on the service.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.5 ~ Why didn't they just release all games stemming from the original Modern Warfare as DLC, everything would still be the same!

i still dont understand why people want to buy MW3... why wont they buy something good like BF3?

Truth is, there might not even be an Elite for PS3. Most of the people trying to give Elite a go on this Beta are being stopped on their tracks due to errors linking their PSN accounts. Now, Sony says they have nothing to do with it, Activisioon says it´s Sony´s fault... In the end, MW3 will be released and wont work.

To all the PS3 users run, run while you still can lol

I believe all PC and PS3 gamers should just NOT buy MW3 cause you're paying an already huge price for a game and then get overpriced late dlc, and it's even worse if you're a PS Plus user, i like PS Plus, but only a brainwashed douche would pay for MW3+Elite+PS+ and still get late content... Nevermind the Xbots, cause they already pay 60 a year for the right to play online then 60$ for MW3 and 50$ if they want Elite...that's a 170$. I can just get both U3 and BF3 for 120$ and keep a 50$...thank you.

@warhawk-smakaho: Coz you got brains, while others' have been eaten by all those zombies already. Why else do you think we got so many Zombie games... those digital zombies are eating your brains so that you turn into zombie and lap up everything dev/publishers push to you.

IDK I'm looking forward to this. Maybe because it's my first COD experience and I'm not burnt out on it yet. However I really like numbers and I'm interested to see the enhanced stats over what you get in the game. Plus the stat tracking part is free, so no need to pay the $50 unless you want to pre-purchase the DLC.

haha oh silly Activision after the *LOVELY* experience of being f***ed over in every possible way through my purchase of Black Ops for PS3, yes I think I'll pass cretins. Let the 10 year olds have this game.

The proper title should be Call of Duty: Empty beta now ripping PS3 users off.

what a bunch of garbage. These game developers are a bunch of scumbags, coming up with gimmicks to make us pay more. WoW you get to check your stats, you can already do that for free. WoW you can compete in competitions and tournaments. What if you're just an average player and not someone who gets ridiculous KD/Ratios? The only way this would be remotely worth the price is if you put us on dedicated servers so we don't have to deal with Host BS issues and connectivity problems all the time. How about you fix that instead of this Elite package garbage.

And the list of reasons we should feel insulted grows. Now, not only are developers focusing on crapping out high-priced, low-content "DLC", they're focusing on making bigger-picture DLC on top of it. All I can say is: Stop buying into it, people. Stop paying $15 for three recycled maps. Stop paying $15 for a five-minute add-on quest that has no real bearing on the game itself. When the sheep stop allowing themselves to be herded into paying for this BS, the developers will stop focusing on it as much and return their attention to putting content in the actual game itself as opposed to what they can slice off and charge separately for.

$50 a year for overpriced DLC (i get the feeling they will do timed releases to milk the $50 subscription for all they can get) and stats and $60 for the game . OR . $60 + free DLC+free upgrade to ltd edtion with pre-order+free battlelog well i think this ones easy

I seem to recall a time when gamers could walk into a store, buy a game, go home, play it all, and play it forever. Then came the era of DLC, where gamers are only getting part of the game, and are being expected to buy the rest seperately at an additional cost. Now, thanks to Activision, we have retail games that require a monthly or yearly fee just to use parts of them. Next, we'll have cloud gaming, where games will be played from a server, and all control over content (as well as access to it) will no longer be in the gamer's hands. You don't need nostalgia goggles to see how much better it used to be.

You know you've hit rock bottom in the social department when you play to see and track your stats in COD.

There are too many great games coming out soon to bother with military shooters, especially with this recycled CoD crap. But still,it makes me want to cry when I see in what gaming is turning lately.I hate CoD a lot,it ruins everything,it introduces huge greed into gaming industry(EA isnt much better too),and it sucks out creativity and innovation from FPS genre(I want lengthy and non-scripted campaings, like Crysis 1,Far Cry 1,etc,not this "corridor shooter" crap CoD introduces and other games follow).

If you plan to subscribe to Elite, you might as well just buy the Hardened Edition. I mean, the original game + subscribe = 110$. Hardened, which includes the subscription, costs 100$.

demonkingx5

im in this beta & i find it to be a waste of money i wouldn't waste 50$ a year on this especially in this economy keep your $ you might need it later.
