Jack Ryan is heading to the small screen. It has been confirmed that a new ten-part show based on Tom Clancy's bestselling thrillers is being made for Amazon, with The Office star John Krasinski in the lead role.

As reported by USA Today, the show will feature Krasinski as the CIA analyst, and is co-produced by Amazon, and Paramount. The series will be shot in the US, Europe and Africa, and will, according to the streaming service, be a "reinvention with a modern sensibility."

The show was first announced in April this year, but the full series has now been greenlit.

"We're excited to add the Jack Ryan global franchise to our robust originals pipeline," Roy Price, head of Amazon Studio, said. "Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content."

Krasinski will be the fifth actor to play Ryan. He first appeared in the 1990 thriller The Hunt for the Red October, portrayed by Alec Baldwin. Harrison Ford starred in two Clancy adaptations in the early 1990s, with Ben Affleck and Chris Pine both playing the character in more recent years.

While Krasinski is best known for playing hapless Jim Halpert in nine seasons of The Office, he did take on a more action-packed role in last year's Michael Bay-directed war movie 13 Hours.

There is currently no title or premiere date for Amazon's Jack Ryan show.
