The Office actor John Krasinski has scored himself a new role, and this time it's Tom Clancy's well-known CIA agent, Jack Ryan. Krasinski will star as the character in a new Amazon TV series from Lost and Bates Motel writer Carlton Cuse.

Variety reports that Cuse's top pick for the role of Jack Ryan had been Krasinski since the project started development. Cuse will be joined by fellow Lost writer Graham Roland, who will assist in running the show. Michael Bay's company Platinum Dunes is on board to produce, alongside Paramount TV and Skydance TV.

The Jack Ryan series is skipping the pilot testing process and has garnered a series commitment. The new show has not been given the thumbs-up to start production, though Variety reports that Krasinski's involvement "will likely expedite the process."

Krasinski is mostly known for his roles in comedies such as The Office, Away We Go, and License to Wed; however, he's also had experience in more action-focused films like 13 Hours and Jarhead.

Krasinski isn't the first actor to play the popular CIA agent, either. He's actually the fifth, coming in after Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears. Jack Ryan was most recently portrayed by Star Trek actor Chris Pine in 2014's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

The Rainbow Six video game series is based on the 1998 novel titled Rainbow Six. It takes place in the Jack Ryan universe, though it opts to focus on another Tom Clancy character, John Clark, instead.
