User Rating: 8 | ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead PC
Operation Arrowhead or short for OA is a standalone expansion of the award winning game ARMA 2. Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead is a tactical Combat Sim, were you need to command and use different units, from normal Rifleman to Airplanes. Mostly you command a squad of 11 man, you can order them to do almost everything, you can tell them to hold fire or even salute you.
The game lets you choose from over 300 different units, tanks, airplanes and helicopters. Not all of them are in one mission, but in the editor you can control every single one of them, but more on that later.

Combat
Like you would expect, you can't just run in with guns blazing and kill everyone on sight. You need to watch your angle and you need to stand still if you want to kill someone. When you're a sniper it's even more difficult, because you need to watch the air speed and the time it takes for the bullet to get there.

When you're in armored tanks or trucks its mostly basic aim and shoot, the game is more a soldier sim then a tank sim. You have a tank commander, a gunnery , a driver and a loader. But you can easily just command a tank on your own because you really only need a driver and gunner. So driver to somewhere and switch easily to the gunnery position to kill your enemies.

Airplanes and Helicopters are a different factor, only the best players can use a jet perfectly and even kill something, most players can just fly with it and hope they don't crash. Same goes for Helicopters but the makers have put in a hover mode so you can easily land or take off. The combat is also hard, shooting with the machines guns is easy, but you need the right angles to shoot with rockets, because they don't have a target system so you can only hit something when there in front of you.

Faction

There are 4 factions in Operation Arrowhead and some of them got sub faction:
• Blufor (US Army, ACR and Germany)
• Opfor (Takistan Army and Takistan Militia)
• Neutral (Rebels and the UN)
• Civilians

The Blufor are mostly the peace keepers, like now a days they are the invading troops that will stop dictators or threats to the world. The Opfor are the Takistan Armies, and sympatric militia of Takistan. The Neutrals have not decided who they want to side with, Rebels don't like Opfor in standard but Blufor need to watch himself what they are doing, Because The rebels can easily turn against them. And the UN are just peace keepers, and want to stop the armed conflicts.

Campaign
In the Operation Arrowhead Campaign you need to liberate Takistan from a evil Colonel Aziz who is the dictator in Takistan. In the first mission you are just a normal grunt that takes orders from his commanding officer. Later you will switch to other characters and be a tank command, special force commander or you will fly helicopters. The campaign is very short, comparing with the ARMA 2 one but you can still squeeze 10 hours of game play out of it.
Editor

Like most games on the PC, Operation Arrowhead got a mission editor. But unlike other editors, you get the mission editor that the developers use for their main campaign. So you see many experience mod makers that even outgrow the developers and make better campaigns and missions. Even the not so experience mission makers can whoop up a simple but hard map in a hour. You already got the map, so you only need to put units in it. With simple to use waypoints and modules you can make a fun and long map.

Multiplayer

You can play the campaign in COOP mode with anyone you like, or you can make your own mission and let other people play it. You just need to make a mission, put it online somewhere or even let it be in the game so players download it pretty fast from the server. These are the modes you can play with:
• Warfare (you need to buy, make money, capture towns and control your base in the whole map of Takistan)
• COOP (play any single player mission against the AI with other people)
• Death match ( players vs. players)
• Team death match ( teams vs. teams)
• Capture the flag
• Spec-op (same as COOP but this generate random missions on the map)

Conclusion

The game is fun, and a real sequel to ARMA 2 maybe even better. But the short campaign looks like that the makers wanted to let the community take over and finish their product. Overall the game is great.
