get me a net or better yet, net me the original game.
The bad: not quite as fun afterwards. minigames lack fun. annoying camera problems.
ah 1999. the year one of sonys greatest hits was made. Ape escape was one of my favorite games to play as a kid (ya know around the 6)i couldnt say no to on the loose.
But once you go deep, youll realize that youd wish you knew where your original ape escape was.
Though the game isnt bad. The graphics made a huge leap over its original version and the voice work isnt as bad. though when you start, you instantly get used to the controls that you find the game even easier than the original. but thats not the problem
The analog system is what made the games such a hit and while ape escape on the loose is fun, itll only last the first play through.afterwards you go on to get the real ending and unlock a bunch of useless minigames.
The minigames range from average to boring to just bad. the snowkids (which was ski kids) are a revamped version of the Psone and really a basic snowboarding game. boxing is better but the combat is kinda boring and when you think you achieved victory, they slap you a even harder boss, lose, and start all over again. ping pong is well ping pong with some added stuff and jake attack is just part 1 of spike versus jake.
The graphics (ill describe it ) may first look like the original, but after recent research (youtube ape escape ps1 versus psp) psp details the mess ups of the originals. Models are less blocky, characters eyes arent uncomrortably close any more and environments are more detailed. Though of you see Ape escape 2 or ape escape 3. this looks nothing look those titles. it looks more like a cel shader, and compared to other 2005 psp releases (like twisted metal head on or prince of persia revalations) youll see the game really doesnt push the systems limits and youll see through walls sometimes.
the voice acting is ok, but for characters like spike, i wish they would of kept the original voices (he sound more like billy of the grim adventures) everything sounds like youd expect.
for the last couple weeks ive been working on ape escape,ape escape 2, and ape escape 3 and finally this title. the worse out of all of them? this one. As harsh as it sounds, its just not as fun without the analog system. its enjoyable but it wont last you long. if you for some reason cant go to ebay or cant play your ps2, get this. but if you get a copy of the original or plan on going on ebay, get the original instead.
