Alice has been given a far higher rating than it deserves. Game is too hard and very unintuitive.

User Rating: 2.5 | Alice: Madness Returns PS3
While Alice may be a refreshing break from first person shooters, and calls back to classical platform gaming, the game has many weaknesses. This is the game that could have been great but isn't and here's why:

1. Game save is unintuitive, often, after you leave the game and come back, or continue after dying the game has NOT saved all of the memories, bottles, or teeth you have collected, and may also not have saved upgrades to your weapons.

2. The way that Alice moves and fights makes it overtly difficult for her to take on several enemies at one time, because each weapon does something totally different, the enemies often have an unfair advantage over Alice. You may have one attacking as a flying enemy while another is tossing bombs at you, and yet another is crawling towards you under the floor, but Alice's weapons are not capable of defending or fighting each type at once.

3.Graphics are strange which you get used to a bit along the way, but in some places the seams show, and glitchy light will shine through objects in the environment where they shouldn't, low quality control. in addition it almost seems like in the middle of animation they just stopped and didn't properly finish shading, and reflection effects.

4. The confounded illogical story-line: while even the original Alice in Wonderland was a strange story, this rendition has parts which make absolutely no sense. in fact Alice will complete tasks and then very strange or flat out stupid things will occur because she starts to comment on them even though most of the time you don't see or understand what the character is even talking about.

5. Frustrating: The game is frustrating, even in chapter one, the jumps are too difficult, even with Alice's airy jumps, in chapter two it gets even worse, as well as enemies constantly out numbering Alice, causing the player to fall and die over and over and over until the player wants to quit and not play. Coupled with the unintelligent save system it make one want to toss the game directly out the window as apposed to playing any further.

6. Whore references: as a female gamer and mother of three, I realize not all games are for children, but I found the repeated references to whores, and Alice being called or invited to become a prostitute crude, unnecessary and vile. Some of the language was inappropriate. Not all people want to listen to cursing and disgusting innuendos while playing a game. I took 2 points off for this reason alone.

7. Unintelligible fonts: I always subtract alot of points when any game's writing is too small or blurred to read, I have a 52 inch hd tv, and still cannot read many game's fonts, because they are too small, and there is zero excuse, so I deducted 1.5 points from my score for this reason. No one should have to dig out a magnifying glass to read text, it's infuriating.

All in all the game which I was originally very excited to own, became a complete and utter frustrating disappointment, too difficult to enjoy, and very illogical. I think the review scores it has received previously are way to generous to the game.
