A good air combat game, but doesn't make sense at times.

I had never played an Ace Combat game before this one, but Ive always liked air combat games. From the few videos i watched it looked fun but i wasn't expecting to much of a story. I got more than i was expecting out of the story but it was kind of weak and didn't make a lot of sense. (this might contain spoilers but i don't think i can really ruin it)

The main focus of the game is a weapon called trinity. Now the game never really tells you what it is or why its bad. From what i gathered its a very portable highly destructive nuclear weapon. (if you don't know much about this, for short nukes are usually big and hard to move around) It took me basically the whole game to figure this out. The other focus is a rough group that were making trinity or something close to that i can't really remember. One thing i didn't understand in the story, is it kept focusing on one enemy pilot for having a shark's mouth on his plain, like we knew what they were talking about. (well i didn't know) You start in Africa and as you progress through the game you eventually end up in, you guessed it Russia. (im starting to wounder why its always Russia lol)

The voice acting was not the worst Ive seen but it was pretty bad. They would be having a normal conversation one second and the, next second they'd say something that was ether completely out of place or just sounded weird. My favorite line is when they were talking about the bad guy and said "he is far from good".

The game play was by far the best part of the game. The one thing i found funny was the number of missiles you had. It was something like 80-100 missiles, which is an impossible number for any aircraft to carry. Now im glad it wasn't a realistic number or this game would be unplayable i just think its funny. The flying was pretty good felt smooth and reasonably realistic. Hitting a target at range was fairly difficult. (little easier if you've watched "Dog Fights") For the most part you didn't try to get a kill at much of a distance. Instead you got close enough to activate the close range dog fight mode. (i cant remember what they called it) The thing i realized with this is the game fly's for you all you do is shoot, break or speed up. I got excited about the mechanical carnage but most of the death views looked the same so i was a little disappointing.

On 2 missions you got to use a helicopter. I liked the 1st mission but the 2nd one was kind of annoying. It started out ok but at the last part it was annoyingly hard. I needed to kill some ground units but i had to kill the other helicopters 1st but for some reason i couldn't hit them. The gun on my helicopter was good vs ground units but absolutely horrible vs another helicopter. i could only hit the other chopper like 3 times b4 i needed hide behind a building to heal. So it usually took 5 minutes to kill one in that spot. Then when you finally finish that level your guy gets killed in a nuclear blast. (go figure)

The game did something i found odd. On one mission you had to protect a city from bombers that might be carrying trinity. Now if you shoot them down they don't have it but if you fail they nuke the city with trinity. I don't know why you'd do any mission like that. Why not just have them have it ether way?

Now for the weirdest most annoying part in the game. On 1 level a nuclear missile gets launched from a silo and it'll hit the U.S., That obviously bad. So you need to destroy it b4 it goes into orbit. So im thinking "ok Ive got to destroy it quick, 1 missile should do it". So i get a lock hit it and it just keeps going so i think "ok 1 more no way it'll still fly after 2". hit it again still nothing, 3, no 4, no, 5, no 10, yes. It took 10 shots and count less bullets and to make it even weirder it was trying to evade me. Im no expert but missiles like that go 1 way strait up into orbit then hit there target. The other thing what kind of missile can take as much punishment as a battle ship. Any thing that goes into orbit has to be light and just strong enough to not fall apart on the way up. (how well do you think a space shuttle would do against a Side-Winder?) I failed like 15 times mostly because my knowledge of how things work got in the way. Besides an ICBM makes for a terrible boss fight and a kind of weird 1 too. If they would have told you its a special missile i might have let it go. So its a good game but is annoying and odd at times
