This runaway game is loaded with explosives and lame voice acting ... AND IS HEADED FOR CASSANDRA!!

User Rating: 9.4 | Zombie Revenge DC
Zombie Revenge is the best 3D beat-em-and-shoot-em-up game that I could find on the Dreamcast, plain and simple. It’s a jewel from the beginning to the end, with it’s only flaw being it’s extreme difficulty.

STORY:
Zombie Revenge revolves around three hero-agents who must stop the hordes of the undead from destroying civilization as we know it. You see, the government had decided to use the dead as biological weapons, shock troops that wouldn’t die, so that it could gain the upper hand in future wars. At one point however, all of the plans involving this top secret project were thrown into darkness. A few months later, the city became the feeding ground of the living dead. Now the three agents must find out what happened.

GRAPHICS:
Zombie Revenge uses plain graphics in terms of detail and resolution, but thanks to its zoom-out camera, everything looks very beautiful (for a Dreamcast anyway). The game runs at 60fps, which is very very pleasing to the eye. Colors are crisp with various dark and light tones.

MUSIC / SOUND EFFECTS:
The game possesses some really good clips. Nothing exceptional, but I found myself listening to them a lot, like the one in the train. The sound effects are nice, although the Dreamcast can do better.

The voice acting is top-notch in zombie game tradition. It is the lamest, most horrible, vile voice acting ever. It is terrible. Terrrrrible. From the arch-villain to the heroes, every line is a scar to an oscar performer, every word is a tear coming out of your eye. It’s so disgustingly bad that it’s so good, it hurts. Lines like “To catch him, we have to follow”, “This runaway train is loaded with explosives and the virus ... and is headed for Cassandra!”, “Stick. Brightling. You, especially. Must suffer.” and “Okay, I’m finished -- playing AROUND...” are going to be immortalized. Never again have I heard such bad voice acting. It actually makes Kung-Fu dubbed movies sound excellent. I couldn’t be more pleased. Zombie movies should always have Zombie Revenge as prime example in dialogue-emotion. Excellent work Sega.

GAMEPLAY:
The game is as hard as a zombie is ugly. Even with 15 credits and the game set in “Very Easy”, you’re going to need a lot of training to make it through. The sprite collision is flawless, there quite a few combos you can pull off in order to defeat your enemies, you can pick up pipes, clubs, guns and machine guns, and perform some throw moves with some characters. There is a satisfying amount of zombie diversity in the game, as well as an impressive array of boss characters. A nice touch was the fact that you get to choose the arch-villain’s finishing move during the beginning of the game.

OVERALL:
Zombie Revenge is an excellent action game that doesn’t deserve the bad reviews it got from many “official” gaming sites. Everyone’s entitled to his own opinion though, and if they found something they didn’t like it’s not for me to say. Well, until the next Zombie-Brawler comes ... “he’s the one making the zombies. To catch him, we have to follow ... let’s go!"
