Much better than Forbidden memories on the PS1, and a brilliant game anyway

User Rating: 10 | Yu-Gi-Oh! Shin Duel Monsters II: Keishou Sareshi Kioku (Konami the Best) PS2
The Good: Unique duelling system, incentives to keep playing

The Bad: Some battlefields are unreasonable

Full Review: Duellists of the roses is the perfect redemption of Forbidden Memories on the PS1. Adding a proper duelling system and a reason to take weaker monsters puts in what made FM bad. It also adds a proper tactical game while not distorting the Yu-Gi-Oh game. The terrain, spells and levels are all there, but work in a way that gives the gamer a genuine challenge. There is also a major incentive to playing after you've finished it, getting your monsters to a high rank to unlock abilities and new cards, including pieces of Exodia, on the slot machine. It's a pity you don't know how long it will be before a card moves up a rank. Some battlefields are also downright unreasonable. Take Pegasus' as an example. Loads of Meadow on your side (no good if you don't have Warriors), and a small path leading to a bucket of Toon terrain, and you're unlikely to find a monster that lasts long there. However, there are only one or two of these, so they don't spoil the game much.
