Despite its limited room for customization and its somewhat punishing difficulty at later stages. Its undoubtedly solid.

User Rating: 8 | Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone PSP
Yggdra Union is more or less a direct port of the GBA version with a few touches added and some edges polished. The difficulty for a normal PSP game is slightly easier than the GBA version due to morale recovery upon leveling. These differences aside, a hard mode is unlockable upon completion of a normal playthrough.
To the essentials then:

Thumbs-Up:
1. Unique gameplay that utilizes the positions of units to launch 'union' attacks. Units placed diagonally or horizontally to each other has an impact on the overall outcome of the battle. Besides that, the game focuses on the rock-paper-scissors type of weapons. Spears has an advantage over Swords, Axes over Spears, Rods over Conventional Weapons and Bows over Rods. It even features some unique card selection menus upon each turn which carries some effects upon activation in battle, like Mirage ( Switches geography panel with opponent ) and Banish ( deals Holy damage to enemy ).

2. Newbie friendly - The tons of options may seem overwhelming at first, but the tutorial does the job wonderfully by introducing several concepts slowly over the course of the game. So even if you have never played Yggdra Union on the GBA, you will grasp the essentials of the game in no time.

3. Beautiful animations and sharp details. The combat animations are vividly colored and character animations are just splendid. Plus! The spell cards' animations are just awesome. Beautiful. =)

4. Fast Forward. U can fast forward the game by holding down the L + R button or just tap it once. This effectively skips dialogue and events in a snap or even the whole combat sequence animations, since u might be replaying it and its kinda tedious to read thru the text or whatever again. Its great when u want to restart a mission and try another strategy to minimize your losses.

5. Likable characters. The dialogue might get a tinge bit cheesy at times but most of them sound just right and the characters are quite well drawn. Before long, u will start to really care for them. =D Especially Yggdra. Duh.

Thumbs-down:
1. Confined customization options. U can't really customize a characters weapons, items, clothes etc. Since a character can only equip one item at any given time. And once equipped, it cannot be remove until it reaches the stated amount of maps.

2. A single mistake can cost more than just a few bruises in Yggdra Union. It can lower your morale and morale is not replenished every time u enter a new battlefield. So planning your every move is very important if u want to survive the later stages. But sometimes it can get kinda frustrating, especially when you are on the verge of defeating a boss then your character, being low on morale dies/flees... later stages are quite tough imo.

Comments:
1. Sound is okay. The typical fantasy theme. =)
2. Story is somewhat cliche, but still passable.
3. Battles after battles can get quite tiresome after a while. Too bad there's no break like Disgaea..

Conclusion:
If you are looking for a challenging Tactical RPG with a unique art design. And don't mind some usual fantasy yarn or perhaps you are just the type who adores SRPGs. Then get this. [Recommended.]
