I love poker as much as the next guy and bought this game as soon as it was available (and also wondered why GameSpot was absolutely silent on this one for months after its release). I figured it would be a great way to get in some practice hands and try some strategies before attempting them out at some "friendly" games. Big mistake.

Gameplay is OK, but the career mode is sort of odd - it allows you to play only one particular kind of tournament for each year of your player's life. If you want to try a particular tournament again, you have to reset your player or make sure that you have multiple saves for your career so that you can go back in time. I found the whole experience more annoying then anything else.

Several variations of Poker are available, including both limit and no limit as well as some other poker games too. I found some of the tournament play to be engaging so it did keep my interest - but this is a definite rent first and draw your own conclusions.
