Wizards & Warriors lets us control Kuros, a brave warrior out to destroy an evil wizard named Malkil while saving some damsels in distress that Malkil has kidnapped.

I guess original Nintendo games didn't really have much depth, but that is the story behind W&W, a game where if you dont use cheats you probably won't beat it. The gameplay was pretty simple: you run, you jump, and you swing your sword all while trying to find different color keys and items to help you progress through the game...oh, and you collect rubies to give to the red knight to let you pass through certain areas.

Like I said, the game is wicked frustrating. You will CONSTANTLY be under siege by a volley of odd enemies that, even though you hit them hundred of times, seem to never die. What is good is that you have infinite continues, so you don't have to stress too much about dying.. unless your in an aggravating stage that is just hard all around.

You collect a variety of different items & weapons. Some, like the Dagger of Throwing or the Wand of Wonders, allow you to hit enemies a distance away. Other items, such as the Shield of Protection (what else would a shield be used for?) protects Kuros from getting hit with fireballs. Those are only a few items, but you get a lot more like the Potion of Levitation (the most useful item in the game), Feather of Fall, Cloak of Darkness (useless..) and many more. You can also pick up different color potions, which depending on the color, can grant Kuros invincibility, higher jumps, or faster speed.

W&W is a 2D platformer, so by now I'm going to assume you know that means the camera is fixed in a side scrolling position. The only thing is, you will find yourself actually going up trees, rocks, fortresses and whatever else instead of actually running right or left haha.

I believe the graphics were pretty good for the NES. It sort of has a comic book look, but is surrounded with a dark and threatening atmosphere which will always be present throughout the entire video game.

The music has got to be the best part of this game. Its very catchy, and just straight up sounds good. People have gone as far as to remix them, and it can be heard at OCRemix.org. Its cool because once you get low on health, it plays this frantic music that is a constant reminder that you are near death.

If you still own a Nintendo, or even have an NES emulator on your computer, I suggest you play this game. It's alot of fun albeit hard. So, if you like challenges or are just looking for a fun little old school platformer to play, pla this.
