Simply put, the best WCW game of all time.

User Rating: 8.5 | WCW/nWo Revenge N64
Good: One of the best engines ever, Bigger roster than World Tour, Good graphics, Battle royal mode

Bad: The roster is somewhat dull, No entrance themes, No create-a-wrestler, Very few gameplay modes

This game is the holy grail of WCW games in my opinion. While later games would add backstage areas and even bigger rosters, none compared to the sheer fun of Revenge. When you pulled off a big move on a wrestler, you really felt like you did the damage. And when you lcoked in a submission and started mashing those buttons, you felt like you were going to break the guy in half. That was all because of the amazing AKI engine.

Revenge was a huge step up from World Tour when it came to gameplay. The controls are smoother, and the control layout is much better. Also, there was no slow-down when the ref's count appeared onscreen.

The roster is excellent for a WCW game. All the big names and mid-carders are there, along with a few non-WCW personalities. However, I do think that World Tour had a better selection of ficticious characters. I mean, who wanted Frankenstein instead of Black Ninja? Another knock against the roster was the lack of a create-a-wrestler mode. With World Tour's great cast, it wasn't very important, but seriously. While there is a Costume Change mode, it doesn't make up for not being able to create a player.

The biggest upgrade was, in terms of gameplay, the batte royal. In World Tour, the battle royal was a simple, four-man elimination match. Revenge boasts an epic, forty man Royal Rumble-like match with a new wrestler entering every time one was eliminated. It's an awesome match.

There's not a whole lot in the audio department. The players walk out to a weird remix of the Nitro theme, and the opponents walk out to, well, I think is a butchered nWo theme song. Some things I found amusing were the N64 versions of real rock songs. Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'" plays in the Options menu, and Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild" plays during the end credits. I think they're pretty decent remixes, but it's odd hearing them like that.

All in all, WCW/nWo Revenge is without question, the best of all WCW games. While I know that isn't saying much considering the others like Backstage Assault, Thunder and the like, it's amazing how well-crafted this game is, only for WCW games to go downhill almost immediately afterwards. While I do recommend the WWF games, and to some degree World Tour, over this, this is one game that every wrestling gamer needs to check out.
