You want war? You got it...with spikes.

User Rating: 8.5 | Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising PC
With Chaos Rising we see an "Old Reliable" come back, it's not trying to reinvent the DoWII wheel, just add more of what made the first good with added action and maaaany more explosions. It should excite even the most bitter Jokaero.

Relic have done a good job. It's just as tense due to the semi-RPG nature of the game - there were a few points when I was thinking to myself "I could do with Dragon Age's pause function!" due to so many squads of cultists and Chaos Marines bearing down on my team.

So you can't fail to be interested - sit back and you're toast (unlike last week's SupCom 2, which felt like having a snooze was a viable player strategy).

And there's a lot more wargear this time - and I'd be tempted to say too much in some instances...just how many thunder hammers do you need? But that's a minor complaint - you get plenty of weapons to equip your squads to do near enough anything you want, and that includes stuff for the librarian. I like him, but I think it's a shame you can't swap him with your commander on missions - It gets even more RPG-like with two heroes running around. And the Corruption mechanic is similarly something you'd expect from an RPG, and adds plenty of flavour and potential for replay should you so desire.

Bar some minor irritating glitches, Relic have once again made a good expansion for an already good game.

The only reason I didn't give this a 9.0 is because you're *still* only playing the campaign from the Space Marine point of view. The original DoW shook things up with its add-ons, but so far only Games Workshop's favoured sons are getting a look in on the plot. Hopefully like the Company of Heroes expansions we'll begin to see the Eldar and Chaos get a crack at the single player side of things.

Once again, another good game from Relic. They took what worked and made it stronger. You can't ask for much more than that.
