Fun albeit temporary

User Rating: 8 | Virtua Tennis: World Tour PSP
Virtua Tennis: World Tour was the first tennis game I owned on my PSP. At first glance, it looked all attractive: Real-life tennis players (Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, etc.) imparted into a console. When I started playing those characters out, I realized that the gameplay was absolutely fun; I was able to combine variations of spins and their directions, and watch the game progress to higher difficulty levels gradually. Of course, most of my time was spent at the World Tours, where I played mini-games such as "hit the ball at the robots" in order to boost my various aspects of play. These mini-games are important to win tournaments, because without them, you might find your character running too slow to reach the ball across the tennis court even if you have dextrous fingers on the D-pad, to name but one of the problems. Besides the world tour, you can get paired up to an opponent in Quick Match mode, or play in several rounds to win the tournament in the Tournament mode.

While sports games such as this are fun and exciting to explore and to hone your gaming skills, there is little initiative for me to play it all over again. I find myself chucking it in my shelf after spending good 10+ hours on it. Also, since this is my first ever tennis game, I doubt I will ever buy another tennis game, since there is little additions or adjustments other producers can make to usher in the "Wow" factor to the enjoyment of gamers.

Perhaps I am biased against sports games, but hey, considering the gameplay and graphics, there is something to Virtua Tennis: World Tour which we can applaud to. To put it in a nutshell: Fun albeit temporary
