Fun game WITHOUT Motion Plus.

User Rating: 7 | Virtua Tennis 2009 WII
I picked up this game over Grand Slam tennis because I trust Sega and the Virtua Tennis folks. They've been doing it for years.

I don't have time for a lengthy review, but there are some important things that potential buyers should know.

1) The implementation of motion plus in Virtua Tennis 2009 is subpar, to put it politely. The game is infinitely better when played with just a plain-old Wii controller.

2) In many ways, this game is what Top Spin 3 should have been: Intuitive controls that make sense and work properly, fully developed career mode and character creator, online multiplayer, the works. Just don't buy it to demonstrate the strengths of motionplus. Because in this game, there aren't any.

3. Graphics are a step above TS3 Wii, and player models are realistic rather than cartoonish. The price? A serious case of the jaggies. Not the end of the world, IMO, because what matters in a tennis game is how it plays during the points, not between them. And you won't have time to notice while you're actually playing.

4. Frame rate (the swing direction meter, at least) occasionally stutters when playing without motion plus.

Overall, this is a solid B to me. In game ratings, that seems to be about an 7. It could have been higher had motion+ been better implemented.
