can it pull of excellence for a third time?

User Rating: 8.5 | Virtua Fighter 3tb DC
Put simply I love the Virtua Fighter serries on a whole(never played VF4 but I expect it would also be brillant) and if you want to find out in more detail why I love Virtua Fighter games in general then read my Reveiw on Virtua Fighter 1.In this review however I will be concentrating mainly on what this game adds and changes over the previous Virtua fighter games.
First and foremost the polygon count of the game is further increased form 2 with characters and stages being more detailed than ever the game overall looking graphicly excellent(especially for its time).Again in VF3 The music changes tone again for this game this time to a more sombre relaxed beat that while easy to listen to doesnt really sound like it belongs in a fighting game and detracts slightly form the overall excellence of the game.
Additionally there is some game play changes including the removal of the weird floaty jumps that left you exposed in the air for ages in VF 1+2( I dont know why they put them in in the first place to be honest.) and the introduction of a sidestep button. Yep thats right a side step button. Its an unusual system at first which has you shimying you thumb across to brush against the side of the B in order to side step.(dfficult to learn.) However with a bit of practice get use to the system and learn to use to your advantage.
I mentioned earlyer about how the graphics of the game are enhanced ,the characters look slightly dated in todays day and age. However the designs of the arenas in which you fight havent aged a bit and are probbly my favorite thing about the game. The stages in the game are uneven and reward a skillful side stepping player who can get on to higher ground to kick his/her opponent in the head.
Finally as in any new Virtua Fighter game we have the introduction of new characters in this case the excellent Taka and not so excellent(although theres many who would disagree with me.) Aoi.Ive heard many complaints about the VF games about how they only inrtoduce a few new chars with every game but with each one being so differnt from annother(unlike Tekken in which Kumas like Jack and so on) its unlikely you will get bored of the game and its diverse range of characters.
Finally why should you buy this game? Well Its only available for Dreamcast so unless you still have yours there is no point in buying this game because you will have nouthing to play it on.However if you do have a Dreamcast then what this game is ,is Virtua Fighter awesomeness. All ready own some Virtua fighter awesomeness ? Well this is the only Virtua Fighter game in which you can play as the excellent sumo Wrestler Taka Arashi(he was removed form later games in the serries) and for that reason alone as a Virtua Fighter fan you really owe it to your self to buy this game to try out the incredible Taka.
