Westworld Breakdown: Season 2 Episode 1 - Journey Into Night

Puzzled by Westworld season 2's premiere? The GameSpot Universe gang are here to dissect the episode. Beware, spoilers!

HBO's Westworld is finally back and, just like the first season, the premiere episode of Season 2 throws viewers into the deep end. Picking up shortly after the bloody climax of the previous season's finale, it barely gives viewers the time to get their bearings and quickly presents multiple timelines to get to grips with. It also contains characters who have fundamentally changed, and a whole new set of mysteries to consider.

Westworld Season 2 Episode 1, "Journey Into Night," is dense and requires unpacking, which is exactly what we're here to do for you. As with GameSpot of Thrones, we'll be here every week to delve deep into the latest episode and pull out the key moments to discuss and theorize. With Episode 1 we look at the new game being set up for The Man in Black to play, analyze the new Dolores, and consider the future of Bernard--along with a whole bunch of other things.

We expect the series has many surprises in store for us, but one of those has already been revealed. In Season 2 the series will travel outside of the Wild West to Shogun World, a zone populated by samurai warriors. What's going to happen there remains unclear, but Shogun World invites guests to "embrace their inner warrior, in a landscape of highest beauty and darkest horror," so it's sure to be exciting. Westworld Season 2 premiered on April 22 on HBO and Sky Atlantic, and is set to have 10 episodes.
