The Reasons Red Dead Redemption 2 Isn't On PC... Yet - Steam Punks - Steam Punks

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally here, but only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While a PC edition of the game is rumoured, Rockstar has yet to make any announcements. In the latest episode of GameSpot's PC-focused show, Steam Punks, Jess McDonell and Edmond Tran discuss the situation surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 and its lack of PC support.

In the episode, Jess and Edmond start off by talking about the numerous factors at play that may be keeping Red Dead Redemption 2 off PC. These include business interests and the pursuit of console exclusives, as well as potential technical considerations.

Also in the video, Jess talks about how Microsoft is making strides recently to support PC gaming in a bigger way by bringing more of its big-name franchises to the platform through the Xbox Play Anywhere program.

While the 2010 original Red Dead Redemption never came to PC, there is some hope for Red Dead Redemption 2 extending to the platform if recent history is any indication. Rockstar's previous release, Grand Theft Auto V, eventually came to PC in April 2015. That was five months after the PS4 and Xbox One release in November 2014, and 18 months after the game originally launched for PS3 and Xbox back in September 2013.

Jess and Ed also talk about some of the games they hope will arrive on PC someday. Check out the video to see and hear about all of these games.

Been playing on a PS4 and...god the controls are horrendous. Just trying to loot stuff is a nightmare with these thumb sticks. I also had to move my PS to a computer monitor just to crush the resolution down enough to make it not feel like I'm watching everything through dirty coke bottles.

But I am doing what RockStar wants us to do...buying a game multiple times.

Its my fault. I deserve it.

I'd buy this game if it came to PC. A lot of people can't afford to have a gaming PC and every console out there, just so they can play platform exclusive titles. It would be nice if major titles like this were released on all platforms. It would seem to make sense that they would sell more copies if it was available on PC as well.

PC doesn't really have exclusives??... yea PC does.. just to name a few, Scum, Miscreated, Dead Matter, Star Citizen, Hunt: Showdown, Valhall, Mordhau, New Life, Identity. For someone that is on a pc gaming show you should do more research.

@prolificoracle: Almost all RTS games are PC exclusives as well like total war or warcraft. Some were ported to console though like the original starcraft or age of empires 2, though when AOE 2 was ported to console it didn't include the expansion.

I get the feeling that RDR2 will come to PC eventually but who knows when. Optimisation and bug testing can take a great deal of time when porting games and, what with RDR2 being a 95gb file it could be some time before it is good to go.

On the flip side many PlayStation exclusives can already be played on PC via PS Now. Uncharted 1-3, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and console exclusives such as Red Dead Redemption are also there as well as many others to be played as long as you don't mind paying the subscription. I guess if RDR2 doesn't come to PC it will be a long time before PS Now will include games like RDR2 though be that via capability of the service or choice of Sony/Rockstar.

Real reasons?? Why are we defending this nonsense from Rockstar?? They've been doing the same thing to PC gamers for a while now. Rockstar holds out on PC gamers because they know the massive hype their games have.Most people won't bother to wait. They'll purchase on current gen and then purchase it later on PC. I bought GTAV THREE times. Not doing that again.

There is no reason to do this other than to take advantage of gamers monetarily. I get it. They're a business in the business of making money but this is just totally unnecessary. They're games are still gonna sell millions of copies.

And it isn't because of man power. Rockstar has WAY more than enough funds to co-develop the PC version alongside the console versions. Having GTA as the most profitable video game of all time and all. If it were a manpower issue they could have hired another company to co-develop it. Plenty of other studios do this. Most notably Nixxes and Beenox. Point is there's no moral excuse. I don't expect PC gamers to form a crusade but I for one won't play into their BS again. I have a PS4 Pro. This is a choice.

I skipped out on RDR for the same reasons I'm gonna pass on RDR2; FPS drops below 30. Yea. I'm spoiled. That's what happens when you game at 144 Hz. A stable rock solid 30 is fine with me. Some of the best games I've ever played run at 30 FPS. My eyes can adjust. But drops below 30 are absolutely jarring and pull me out of the immersion.

If it never comes to PC then i just won't play it. I passed on RDR and I'm still alive lol.
