Skyrim's Ultra-Low Graphics Mod Creates A Bizarre And Beautiful Wonderland | Potato Mode

Joey and Kallie venture into Skyrim with the intent of starting their own travel website, but decide that turning the graphics inside-out is much more fun.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't exactly a graphical showcase anymore, but it has aged well and still looks impressive for its sheer scale. That is until it was subjected to fiddling from Potato Mode hosts Joey Yee and Kallie Plagge. In this episode we take a fond look back at one of the most popular RPGs of all time, and then we try to ruin it.

At first the game actually holds up admirably, as our intrepid pair of adventurers jump to different locales as part of an ill-fated tourism company. Then they begin to mess with the settings, and things get weird. Turning down the environmental textures makes for strange glows and shiny plastic veneers, but Joey and Kallie weren't satisfied yet. Before long we have the famous beheading scene as reenacted by puppets made out of Sloppy Joes, a dragon that appears to just be a shadow, and the smoothest Khajiit you've ever seen. Naturally, it all ends where Skyrim journeys usually do: on a horse, attempting to climb a mountain.

Skyrim's versatility and depth has led to a long lifespan, with enough traction to support releases on diverse platforms like Nintendo Switch and Oculus VR. The fan community has banded together to stretch it even further, with an ambitious mod collective aimed at recreating all of Tamriel within the Skyrim framework.
