These days only filthy casual gamers want 'cool' as a way to define a game. It so far hasn't done anything to move the FPS genre forward, just another max payne rehash. Microsoft is slowly plunging into the depths of mediocrity faster than you can say Titanfall or Sunset Overdrive.
What's up with all the negative comments? I thought the gameplay looked pretty awesome. Freezing time seemed like a ton of fun, and I could definitely see some cool tactics to use with it. Am I really the only one who thought it looked cool?
@Colekern Agreed. I think it looks really cool! But heaven forbid somebody posts anything positive!! All ANYBODY wants to do is complain and trash EVERYTHING! "Oh, it's just more of the same." Shut up! If the gameplay is good, who cares if it's something that's been done. Sure, time manipulation has been done in video games, but this still looks awesome.
@Colekern Because, to like this game would mean saying something nice about Microsoft and people would rather maim themselves than saying something nice about Microsoft.
I'll still play the game but I'm not that excited for it now, As someone who loved Max Payne 1 and 2, enjoyed Alan Wake, the gameplay here looks pretty bland. I didn't think the gameplay in Alan Wake was excellent either but I still enjoyed it though. It's just that from the video, all you do is sit in cover, slow down time and spray and pray on your enemies or run up to them while they sit there and follow a button prompt. Maybe the story will be good but I'll have to play the whole game, so far it looks like another sci-fi thriller, some kid has special powers and some powerful people want to control it blah blah.
Looks very linear and scripted and the boring cover shooter gameplay and braindead AI doesn't help much either.
So much wasted potential, it's almost saddening.
There might still be a decent game hiding outside of what was shown in the gameplay video, so I'll reserve final judgement until after release, but if nothing improves I'll get it in a -75% off sale on PC or not at all, sorry Remedy but from what I've seen in the video it's worth no more than 10 to 15 EUR tops for me.
I wonder what the replay value is going to be besides "collect all of X". (journal pages, thermos cans, ...)
@bloody-hell Honestly that AI was better than any I have seen in recent shooting games. I don't see how you can call it brain dead. Not to mention this is a gameplay premier which means the player has a 0% chance of dying.
Nice to know how it'll look like on PC with max settings! I'd be pretty impressed if they could actually ship the game looking like this on the bone without making it go down below 720p. Who am I kidding though, the xbone couldn't even run Titanfall in 1080p... Game looks cool though, I'd pick it up if it ever came up on PC.
Hey, an actual gameplay video that shows continuous gameplay for a few minutes. Unlike some other gamplay trailers where they don't show more than one half to three seconds of continuous gameplay footage, such as that new zombie game.
However, I would suggest trimming the first minute and a half of this video, yawn... No one cares what things look like before you get to the action.
So it seems they merged the darkness of Alan Wake with the time manipulating from bullet time in Max Payne. Sounds good to me as long as Sam Lake is able to pen another story as good as Alan Wake was to go with it =)
this is more like alan wake but linear like max payne and the combat reminds me of remember me somehow. i wish to see more friendly co op games coming from xbox...
@MattyTheButcher Have fun with Bloodborne...oh wait, you can't. It's another super-frustrating Dark Souls game, fun is nowhere to be had. Oh well, I'll actually have fun with this while PS4 owners curse their televisions.
Looks like a movie in which you auto walk and press A to climb a ladder. Typical Xbone power, can't achieve visuals over what was available last gen otherwise
The gameplay looks so boring I dont see any reason why I should play it. Why not just making it another TV show, when it already plays like a movie? I dont get the point of such games. Same with Uncharted.
@Sozialminister Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others won't. I personally like games with a decent amount of cutscenes ... I like a game to tell a story ... it adds to the game instead of mindlessly running around shooting things. That to me is boring.
"There's someone ... shoot him ... oh, there's another guy ... shoot him too. Guess what ... another guy ... I wonder what I should do now?"
@vbplaya It just looks too linear because in the video you can already see the level transitions, they are cutscenes of your character opening and closing a door which conveniently cannot be opened again after the cutscene of your character walking through that very same door.
Also, just more than waist high obstacles which you just jumped down a second ago and cannot climb back up.
So what's the point in playing a 100% fully linear game when you can just watch a let's play on YouTube - There needs to be player choice, replay value, randomness factors and so on to keep it fresh and interesting instead of a one time experience, otherwise it's just a interactive movie in which the player shoots some braindead AI guys every few scenes and then moves on to the next cutscene.
All that linearity and handholding of just about every recent "AAA" game needs to stop.
I'd very much prefer open games over this where I'm able to freely move around a believable world and put the pieces of the story and puzzle together myself instead of it being told for me, receiving it spoonfed in short little, fully linear chapters. (unless they sell it at the price of a movie)
@bloody-hell @vbplaya Fair enough ... I understand your point. I guess I'd have to ask you what games you like then because the norm now days is games like CoD which are linear games as well (which are the ones I'm referring to by the "shoot this guy, then this guy ..."). All of those games have the same issue you speak of where you go into a new area (whether it be through a door or not) and you are now confined to that area. Some allow you to back track some but there isn't any more enemies created so you are simply walking over a desolate land. I prefer games like Mass Effect and Final Fantasy which are both games that have a large amount of cutscenes and story telling while still being an open world type game.
My point was more against mindless shooting games such as CoD which in the campaign modes is VERY linear. I also understand that the main drive on those types of games is the online multiplayer but sometimes I don't want to play against a 10 year old who has logged hundreds of hours while I'm living my life and want to get on and play for an hour or so. :-)
@spacecadet25 @RELeon @MattyTheButcher @Deano Lol yeah, Silent Hill being one of the most iconic games in the last 20 years, and the Dark Souls/Demon Souls series being some of the highest rated games in the past 10 years. Yup, just mediocre.......
I am scared to think what you consider GOOD games.
@pnova Unlike your Dark Souls-Bloodborne game, which is going to be so hard that it's not even fun. What's wrong with this video, the guy didn't die 4 or 5 times fighting the first enemies (or dying on some stupid boobytrap). I actually got to see 8 minutes of gameplay, not the same 2 or 3 minutes done over and over again due to deaths.
