Lol whadda choice...Metro LL and TR Only are worthy games, Stanley parable is amusing game, but all other games are not really that good...not even close to the grades they have.
Now yes, this game is awesome, but did it really beat Metro Last Light and Bioshock Infinite??? Yes PoE is FTP and yes I play it. But I don't like the lack of character customization (if you're the paladin, there's only one face and body, every paladin looks exactly the same. Unless of course you buy armor customization (cosmetic), which I did to support the developers. :O) It's a GREAT game, but I'm surprised it beat the aforementioned two titles.
Gone Home will win this which is a really sad choice. It was good I wont argue there but it was not great nor should it be on this list as a possible Game Of The Year. Either Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider or Metro Last Light should win this but they wont.
Creative new concept and that ever elusive 'new gameplay' and 'original idea' everyone seems to hope games create? I can understand it not getting the game of the year, but it certainly was interesting enough for someone to nominate it.
I believe that Bioshock Infinite will undeservedly win GOTY award, for me at least, it's between Tomb Raider and Metro Last Light, Gone Home probably is awesome as well, just haven't played it... Kind of wondering why, not saying it's bad, DmC is included and AC4 is not...
My favorite PC game this year was Gunpoint. Seriously. I'm a console guy so I play all the blockbuster games (Bioshock, GTA etc) on my Xbox, but I love the PC for the huge selection of indie games. I was hoping you'd have a "Indie game of the year" category but I guess not...but it's nice to see "Papers, Please" on that list.
@TomMcShea @warriors30 Oh man it's funny that you mention The Swapper. I wanted to buy that game a long time ago but totally forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me, Tom.
Gone Home has great dialogue but Stanley Parable has truly off-the-wall writing that's rarely seen in video games. It's highly entertaining humor provides a total of 13+ game endings. Therefore it has more replayability.
i dont understand ?!?! AC4 won x1 ans X360 GOTY, why it isn't here ?
But the thing is that PC is the most antecipated GOTY nomine !!!!! no body cares about Wiiu and PS vita ( they are the first to be revealed ). i 'll risk DOTA 2!!!!!!!!!!!!
@aleks_989 Well, Infinite was memorable, but i DO gotta admit, the gameplay was dissapointing, if you consider it came from 2K, EA or Activision are predictable already, but 2K was always a surprise, Prey, Borderlands, Darkness and the first Bioshock. Hell, even DNF, despite it's flaws it still had it's moments. Unfortunately i haven't played Tomb Raider or Brothers yet to know which truly is better.
@TomMcShea @aleks_989 I don't argue. You're "the guy who hates everything we love". According to you it's probably something like Papers, Please or Gone Home. Each to his own I guess.
Brothers and Stanley... they were amazing. Seems like everybody has forgotten about Antichamber... That would definetly be my choice. So, let the best game win!
Tomb Raide:Bioshock Infinite:Metro Last Light (Complete them all)
I Choose Metro Last Light because company dont have big budged and they made so beautiful story and so amazing gamplay. I CHOOSE METRO LAST LIGHT. WHO CHOOSE METRO LAST LIGHT TOO? VOTE NOW!!!
For me personally, I had the most fun with AC 4, last year it was FC 3. Love me a jungle, but out of this list I would pick Metro and then Tomb Raider.
Gone Home is easily, by far far, the best game of this year. GS, IF YOU GUYS DON'T GIVE THIS AWARD TO GONE HOME, YOU'LL LOSE MY RESPECT. AAA games are those movies where you take your fat girl to cuddle in the cinema. Gone Home is that movie that shouts art and you can't help it but feel truly touched and almost feel you know the characters personally.
Gone Home makes a great and distinguished game like The Last of Us seems like it was written by a virgin adolescent. But, hey, of course gamers here hate it, they're too busy counting hours of gameplay to rate a game.
@marceldelta well you've lost my respect, thinking a so called 'game' that is an hour and a half long and about walking around an empty house reading scraps of paper should get goty.
@couly @marceldelta So because you aren't into these types of games makes it a bad game? The fact it's on this list and given a 9.5 and all the buzz it's gotten would contradict your statement. Also Grendeh WTF do hipsters have to do with any of this? I'm tired of people using that as a blanket statement to describe someone who likes anything other than mainstream COD, Bioshock games. OR to describe anything bad in general. So overused...
@couly @marceldelta Hipsters my friend. Hipsters everywhere. Exactly why you shouldn't listen or read a damn word from this community or the site itself. Gone Home is not GOTY, nor is Stanley Parable, or DOTA 2, or PoE.
Games like Gone Home have been done for 30 years. They're even more stale than FPS.
