Well the voices don't sound as bad as a remember. The compression was horrible in the PS2 version.

And for the love of God, turn off the target lines.

I wonder if they fixed up a few things, I could never figured out how to obtain things on that stupid grid to let me equip better weapons...

@darksynced: You gain LP when you fight enemies and you spend LP on the license board. This game, I believe, is based off the International Zodiac Job System version of the game (that was only released in Japan). In this version you still have LP/Liscense Board but you assign a board for each character and they gain a class. I highly recommend putting Fran as the Beserker.

@wiiu4life: See now like it sounds like the sphere grid from FFX, but I could never put it this games grid into practice. Like one time I unlocked a block on the board to equip a new weapon, but it still wouldn't let me equip the weapon. Locking weapons behind leveling up is a really poor design choice.

@darksynced: Oh yes, it's weird, but it's more of a table top RPG element than a videogame element that didn't really translate well over... But it never really bugged me.

Did you buy the weapons after unlocking then on the board? The board just teaches you how to use the items, you still need to go buy/find the weapons. That's something my cousin didn't get, that the liscense didn't give her the item, just the ability to use it.

@wiiu4life: Yup, I did. Pretty sure it was the same weapon at least, pretty sure it was named the same, it has been years though so I can't remember. It's just a shame cause I liked everything else about the game but the leveling up system just kinda sucked imo. Why can't games stop trying these tacky systems, just stick with the tried and true systems like old FFs.

@darksynced: FF 12's leveling system was more like a table top game than a videogame and it didn't translate over as well as most would like. However, IZJS version (what the remaster is based off from) is a lot more streamlined and works better.

Squareenix wanted to shed off their old image because they thought that in order to keep making money, they needed to developer more "western style" games. Now, this works when you know what you are doing but can turn bad really fast when you don't. Starting with 10 and 12 (11 and 14 are MMORPGS and are a different issue) they made two games that followed more western type approaches. More linear hand holding and less "figure it the hell out yourself" meant that they designed their games with more hallways. Now, for 10 and 12 this wasnt so bad as you could go back and explore and perform the game at your own pace. 13 and 15 however... 13 starts with a hallway which you can't go back and explore places with and ends with a meh open world and 15 starts with a meh open world and ends with a hallway you can't go at with your own pace.

Because of these design choices a majority of their energy was put into those aspects. And because final fantasy has became synonymous with "new system each game" (which I hate) they have to push out a leveling system that is different enough. So we get these weird leveling systems.

I wish final fantasy would take the combat system of XII (no battle sscreens) + gambit system (so I can control how my party acts) + a simple and intuitive growth system (like material or FF 9's crystals) and just keep refining the process and making it better instead of scrapping it and starting over each game.

@sakaixx: I've been more excited about this remaster than FF XV and FF VII Remake since it was first announced. This is my absolute favorite Final Fantasy game and I can't wait to play it again!

I remember when this first came out I was busy and just never got around to playing it. Excited at being able to experience it for the first time with better graphics.
