Disrupting The Firefighter Industry With Embr - PAX East 2019 Gameplay

Embr is a co-op firefighting PC game in the style of apps like Uber and Lyft. Yes, really. And we played it at PAX East 2019.

Thanks to Uber and Lyft, anyone these days can make some extra cash driving people around or delivering food, but what if you could also, say, moonlight as a firefighter? That's the idea behind Embr, a humorous co-op "shooter" in which you and up to three other players take on firefighting jobs. Standard missions boil down to entering a burning building and rescuing the people trapped inside, with your pay determined by how quickly you complete the task (and how many people actually survive).

What makes Embr so funny, however, is its unpredictability. As an emergency responder, you never quite know what awaits when you enter a blaze, be it loose electrical wires that will electrify a room when sprayed or uncooperative civilians more concerned with using the toilet than escaping the fire. Teamwork is also critical to successfully completing the job, as each player has a different set of firefighting tools that you'll need to use in the right situations--which can lead to some very silly moments, as you can see in the video above when we tried the game out at PAX East.
